AIFF Super Cup 2025-26: Jamshedpur FC Stage Late Comeback to Hold NorthEast United 2-2
Jamshedpur FC staged a late comeback to draw 2-2 against NorthEast United FC in a thrilling opening fixture, keeping both teams out of the race for the next round after FC Goa’s later victory.

Jamshedpur FC and NorthEast United FC shared the points in a dramatic 2-2 draw on Thursday in the AIFF Super Cup 2025-26 match. With FC Goa winning their game later in the night, both sides are now out of contention for the top spot as they cannot reach Goa’s six-point tally, even with a win in their final group matches.

NorthEast Take Early Control

NorthEast United started confidently and adapted quickly to the match conditions. They pressed hard from the start, with Parthib Gogoi testing Jamshedpur goalkeeper Albino Gomes as early as the second minute. Their attacking intent soon paid off.

In the 20th minute, chaos inside the box after a long throw-in gave Chema Núñez the opportunity to strike. He reacted fastest when Jairo Samperio’s shot rebounded off the crossbar, firing the ball into the net to give NorthEast a 1-0 lead.

Just nine minutes later, the visitors doubled their advantage. Núñez and Alaaeddine Ajaraie combined brilliantly, with Núñez sending a perfect lofted pass over the Jamshedpur defence. Ajaraie finished the move with a clean left-footed volley to make it 2-0.

Jamshedpur Fight Back

The two-goal deficit sparked Jamshedpur into action. The Men of Steel began pressing higher and linking passes more sharply. Their efforts were rewarded just before half-time when Pronay Halder rose above the defenders to head in Rei Tachikawa’s corner in the 43rd minute, cutting the deficit to 2-1.

Second Half Drama

The second half saw both teams struggle for control on the slippery, rain-hit pitch. NorthEast United created several chances to seal the game, but Chema Núñez, Ajaraie, and Andy Rodríguez all missed key opportunities.

Jamshedpur remained patient and looked for openings late in the game. In the 85th minute, Pratik Chaudhari’s curling shot was tipped onto the crossbar by goalkeeper Gurmeet Singh. The equaliser finally came in the 89th minute when Raphael Messi Bouli broke through the defence and headed home a looping ball from midfield to make it 2-2.

What’s Next

NorthEast United FC will face FC Goa in their final group game on November 1, while Jamshedpur FC will meet Inter Kashi FC earlier the same day. Both teams will now play for pride after falling short of the semi-final race.
