The plans for the 'Maghi Purnima Snan' on February 12 have been put in place after people were stranded in traffic jams for over 30 hours. Thousands of devotees heading to Prayagraj for the Mahakumbh got stuck in massive traffic that stretched 300 kilometers on Monday. As a result, police were advising people to turn back, highlighting the severity of the situation.
DGP Explains Traffic Delays
Uttar Pradesh DGP Prashant Kumar clarified that the traffic delays were not due to mismanagement but because of the overwhelming number of devotees attending the Mahakumbh. He pointed out that over 40 crore devotees have already visited the Sangam since January 13, with millions more arriving every day.
Traffic Management Plans for Maghi Purnima
To ensure smooth operations during the 'Maghi Purnima Snan', the district administration has prepared a detailed traffic plan. From 4 am on February 11, the entire Mahakumbh area will become a no-vehicle zone, allowing only essential and emergency services to operate.
Extended Restrictions in Prayagraj
Additionally, starting at 5 pm on February 11, the no-vehicle zone will also be implemented in Prayagraj city. This will prevent the entry of non-essential vehicles. However, vehicles for essential services will be allowed.
Parking and Vehicle Arrangements
Devotees arriving in Prayagraj for the Maha Kumbh bath must park their vehicles in designated lots starting at 4 am. However, vehicles for essential services will be exempt.
Traffic Plan Duration
The restrictions will remain in effect until the safe evacuation of all devotees from the Mela area on February 12. This includes vehicles for 'Kalpvasi,' who will also follow the same traffic arrangements.
