A video showing a group offering namaz outside Terminal 2 of Kempegowda International Airport has stirred outrage on social media. The people seen praying were reportedly family members of passengers leaving for Mecca.
Although the airport has a designated prayer room inside the terminal, they performed the namaz in an open public area. The visuals, now widely shared online, also show airport staff and security personnel nearby during the prayer.
Opposition questions government’s silence
BJP leader Vijay Prasad posted the video on X, tagging Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and IT Minister Priyank Kharge. He wrote, “How is this even allowed inside the T2 Terminal of Bengaluru International Airport? Hon’ble Chief Minister @siddaramaiah and Minister @PriyankKharge do you approve of this? Did these individuals obtain prior permission to offer Namaz in a high-security airport zone?"
Prasad also compared the incident to RSS processions, saying the government often objects to such events even when organizers follow proper procedures. He accused the administration of “turning a blind eye” to other religious activities and called it a “serious security concern.”

Government weighs new restrictions
According to reports, the Karnataka government is reviewing the matter. Officials are considering new rules to ban all political and religious gatherings at the airport premises.
This restriction would apply to groups across the spectrum — including RSS activities — to maintain the airport as a neutral public space. Authorities said the move aims to prevent disruptions and avoid any potential security risks in high-traffic areas like the terminals.
