Focus on Stronger Counter-Terror Cooperation
This week, a two-day Quad Counter Terrorism Working Group meeting was held in New Delhi. The main aim of the meeting was to find ways to strengthen cooperation in the fight against terrorism.
According to the joint statement, the members came together with a clear and united message.
”Quad partners unequivocally condemned terrorism in all its forms and manifestations, including cross-border terrorism,” a joint statement said.
During the discussions, the four nations exchanged their views on current and emerging terrorist threats. They also shared assessments about the security situation in the Indo-Pacific region.
”They discussed the full spectrum of counterterrorism cooperation and measures that could be used to address existing and emerging challenges,” the statement said.
Strong Call for Global Support
The Quad made it clear that those who planned, organised and funded the attack must be held responsible. It urged all UN member states to support efforts to bring them to justice.
The statement clearly said the Quad partners ”called for the perpetrators, organizers, and financiers of this reprehensible act to be brought to justice and urged all UN Member States to cooperate in doing so”.
Protecting the Indo-Pacific Region
The Quad also highlighted the importance of keeping the Indo-Pacific region safe. It said the region must remain open and free from the threat of terrorism.
At the same time, the four countries reaffirmed their promise to work more closely in international forums. They also underlined the need to continue sharing information about terrorists, terrorist groups, and their supporters.
”They also emphasised the value of continued information sharing on terrorists, terrorist organisations, and their proxies,” the statement said.
