Ukraine Sends Reply to Revised US Ceasefire Plan as Trump Presses for Quick Deal
Ukraine has sent its reply to a revised US ceasefire plan as Donald Trump pushes for a quick end to the war.

Ukraine has sent its response to the latest US ceasefire proposal. President Donald Trump wants a fast end to the war and has been pushing Kyiv to move quickly.

Sources told CNN that Ukraine submitted its feedback after Trump said a breakthrough could soon be “figured out,” adding that “a lot of people say it’s closer than it’s ever been.”

Kyiv and European allies rejected the first US plan. It asked Ukraine to surrender land that Russia has not captured. Many saw this as giving in to Moscow’s toughest demands. The US then revised the proposal.

What the New Plan Contains

The US met both Russia and Ukraine before updating the plan. American officials cut the document from 28 points to 20. They wanted to make it more acceptable to both sides.

This proposal is one of three documents under negotiation. The other two focus on security guarantees and economic rebuilding. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said he discussed the economic recovery document on Wednesday.

A Ukrainian official told AFP that the updated draft “takes into account Ukraine’s vision – it is a further proposal for adequate solutions to problematic issues.”

He added that Kyiv will not reveal details until the US responds. Two European diplomats told CNN that the new plan includes a proposal for a demilitarised zone along the line of contact.

Trump Pressures Kyiv and Europe

Trump has increased pressure on Zelensky to accept a US-backed plan. He has also criticised Europe. He called Europe “decaying” and “weak” on immigration and Ukraine. His comments widened an already growing divide with European leaders.

A new US national security strategy also warned that Europe risked “civilisational erasure.”

When reporters asked Trump about his call with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, French President Emmanuel Macron, and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, he said, “We discussed Ukraine in pretty strong words.”

Europe Shows Support for Kyiv

On Monday, Europe showed united support for Zelensky. European leaders expressed doubts about parts of the latest US proposal.
They also signalled that they prefer a different approach to ending the war that Russia began in February 2022.

Their reaction highlighted ongoing tensions between Washington and Europe, even as peace talks continue.
