JSW Soorma Hockey Club wrapped up their Women’s Hero Hockey India League 2025–26 campaign with an impressive victory. They defeated Shrachi Bengal Tigers 3–2 at the Marang Gomke Jaipal Singh Astro Turf Hockey Stadium in Ranchi on Tuesday.
The result did not affect the standings. Soorma had already exited the title race. The Tigers had already sealed a place in the final. Still, both teams played with intensity and produced an exciting contest that stayed alive until the final whistle.
Strong Start by Soorma
Soorma began the match with purpose. They pressed high from the start and pinned the Tigers deep in their own half.
Olivia Shannon led the attack and almost created an early chance in the fourth minute. However, the score stayed level. Captain Salima Tete then went close with a shot that flew just over the goal. Soon after, Shannon tested Tigers skipper Jennifer Rizzo, who made a comfortable save in the eighth minute.
Early Lead for Ranchi Side
After dominating the opening phase, Soorma broke through in the 10th minute. Sonam scored from close range to give her side a 1–0 lead.
Soorma continued to control play for the rest of the quarter. They moved the ball well and limited the Tigers’ chances. They entered the first break with a deserved advantage.
Tigers Push Back Before the Break
The Tigers saw more of the ball early in the second quarter. Still, Shannon again sparked a Soorma counter-attack, though the final pass went astray.
Soorma earned the first penalty corner in the 26th minute. They won another soon after. The Tigers defended both chances well.
The Tigers then earned their first penalty corner. Soorma blocked it effectively. Lalremsiami later tried her luck, but goalkeeper Nidhi made a strong save. The Tigers pressed late in the quarter, but Soorma stayed compact and protected their 1–0 lead at halftime.
Tigers Find the Equaliser
The Tigers tried to ease pressure early in the third quarter by keeping possession. Soorma maintained their aggressive press.
Victoria Manuele made a fine solo run in the 35th minute. She beat several defenders and earned a penalty corner, but the chance went begging. Another Tigers penalty corner followed in the 37th minute after a high ball from Penny Squibb.
This time, the Tigers converted. Agustina Gorzelany struck cleanly to level the match at 1–1.
The game stayed evenly balanced after that. Soorma nearly regained the lead late in the quarter when Maria Granatto shot narrowly wide. The teams entered the final quarter tied.
Soorma Take Control Late On
Soorma started the fourth quarter quickly. They won a penalty corner just 21 seconds after the restart but failed to score.
They earned another penalty corner in the 49th minute. This time, they executed it perfectly. Vaishnavi controlled the ball, and Penny Squibb finished clinically to put Soorma ahead 2–1.
Late Drama but Soorma Hold Firm
The Tigers won a penalty corner three minutes later but could not convert. Soon after, Soorma struck again. They scored from another penalty corner in the 53rd minute. Maria Granatto finished a smart team move to extend the lead to 3–1. A Tigers referral failed, and the goal stood.
The Tigers refused to back down. They earned a late penalty corner with just over a minute left. Lalremsiami scored on the rebound to cut the margin to 3–2.
The Tigers pushed hard in the final seconds. However, Soorma defended calmly and closed out the match. The win marked Soorma’s second victory of the season.
