“BJP’s Delay in Announcing Delhi CM Draws Criticism from Atishi: ‘PM Modi Has No Faith’
The suspense over Delhi's new CM continues as Atishi criticizes BJP's delay, saying "PM Modi has no faith in 48 MLAs." BJP will meet on Tuesday to finalize the candidate

The suspense over Delhi's new Chief Minister continues, nearly ten days after BJP’s big win in the 2025 Delhi Assembly Elections. On Tuesday, BJP MLAs will meet to choose the new CM. The oath-taking ceremony will take place on February 20 at 4:30 pm.

Meanwhile, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has criticized the delay. Atishi, former Delhi Chief Minister, said, "It has become clear that the BJP doesn't have a CM candidate. It has also become clear that PM Modi has no faith in 48 elected MLAs."

How is the CM selected?

Typically, the BJP sends observers from central leadership to the legislature party meeting. These observers meet the newly elected MLAs and give feedback. Based on this, the final CM candidate is chosen.

Who are the top CM candidates?

Since February 8, several names have emerged. The main contenders include Parvesh Verma, who defeated Arvind Kejriwal in New Delhi, Rekha Gupta (Shalimar Bagh), Vijender Gupta (Rohini), Satish Upadhyay (Malviya Nagar), Ashish Sood (Janakpuri), Pawan Sharma (Uttam Nagar), and Ajay Mahawar (Ghonda).

BJP's 2025 Election Victory

The BJP won 48 out of 70 seats in the 2025 Delhi Assembly Elections. On the other hand, AAP, which had been in power for two terms, won only 22 seats.

Originally, the BJP planned a legislative meeting on Monday, but it has now been postponed. It will likely happen on Wednesday, when the party will finalize the CM candidate.

The Delhi CM oath-taking ceremony is set for February 20 at 4:30 pm at Ramlila Maidan.
