ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026: Clinical Australia Rout Oman in One-Sided Contest
Australia crushed Oman by nine wickets in Pallekele, with Adam Zampa’s four-for and Mitchell Marsh’s unbeaten 64 sealing a dominant finish to their T20 World Cup campaign.

Australia thrashed Oman by nine wickets with 62 balls to spare in the 40th match of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium. After being invited to bat, Oman were bowled out for 104 in 16.2 overs. Adam Zampa (4/21 in 3.2 overs), Glenn Maxwell (2/13 in 3 overs), and Xavier Bartlett (2/27 in 4 overs) demolished Oman’s batting line-up. Marcus Stoinis and Nathan Ellis also took one wicket each. Wasim Ali was the highest scorer for Oman.

While chasing, Australia cruised to the target in 9.4 overs, losing only one wicket. Mitchell Marsh remained unbeaten on 64 off 33 balls. Travis Head played a blazing knock of 32 off 19 balls. Shakeel Ahmad (1/29 in 4 overs) was the most successful bowler for Oman.

With this win, Australia finished their campaign on a high note, while Oman remained at the bottom of Group B.

Australia Bowl Oman Out Cheaply

Australia delivered a disciplined bowling display to dismiss Oman for just 104 in 16.2 overs.

Adam Zampa returned to top form after going wicketless against Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka. He finished with impressive figures of 4 for 21. Xavier Bartlett and Glenn Maxwell supported him well, taking two wickets each.

Before the match, Oman captain Jatinder Singh had boldly said his team was ready to "crush Australia". However, that confidence quickly faded.

On a pitch that had been covered due to rain, Australia chose to bowl first. Bartlett struck with the very first ball. He bowled a delivery that swung sharply back in and shattered Kaleem’s stumps. The left-hander attempted a big shot but only managed a faint inside edge onto his leg stump.

Maxwell dropped a simple catch at first slip, but Oman could not capitalise. Karan Sonavale fell soon after, cleaned up by Nathan Ellis following an attempted big shot. Jatinder played a few crisp strokes during his 17 off 15 balls but was undone by another Bartlett delivery that crashed into his stumps.

Hammad Mirza provided a brief spark by hitting Cameron Green for six, yet Oman ended the powerplay at 47 for 3, clearly under pressure.

Zampa Takes Control

After Bartlett completed his spell with 2 for 27, Zampa stepped in and dismantled the middle order.

He bowled Mirza with a quick delivery that skidded through. In his next over, Mohammad Nadeem attempted a paddle shot but was trapped in front. The on-field decision was not out, but the DRS review went in Australia’s favour.

Vinayak Shukla briefly attacked Zampa with a boundary but was soon caught off Marcus Stoinis. Jiten Ramanandi then became Maxwell’s 50th T20I wicket, trapped lbw. Wasim Ali struck a few boundaries but was bowled by Maxwell as Oman slipped to 100 for 8.

Zampa finished the innings in style. He dismissed Shakeel Ahmed and Shafiq Jan in consecutive deliveries. Oman’s innings ended with 3.4 overs unused.

Marsh and Head Dominate the Chase

Australia’s openers showed attacking intent from the start. Mitchell Marsh and Travis Head added 93 runs in just 49 balls.

Marsh was aggressive from the first over, scoring 14 runs off Shafiq Jan. He drove and punched the ball confidently. He survived a close lbw call when a delivery appeared to hit his pad before the bat, but Oman did not appeal.

That moment changed the game. Spin was introduced early, but Marsh and Head attacked immediately. Marsh lofted Jay Odedra for six, while Head followed with powerful boundaries.

Marsh raced to 53 off 26 balls as Australia piled up 73 runs in the powerplay, smashing 11 fours and three sixes. He remained unbeaten on 64 from 33 balls. Head contributed 32 from 19 balls before falling to Shakeel Ahmed, who celebrated the catch with Cristiano Ronaldo’s famous ‘siuuu’ gesture.

Australia quickly completed the chase in just 9.4 overs. Josh Inglis struck the winning run.

Player of the Match: Adam Zampa

Australia finished their 2026 T20 World Cup campaign with a dominant nine-wicket win over Oman in Pallekele. However, the mood in the Australian camp remained subdued. The players showed little emotion despite a commanding performance with both bat and ball. The victory came too late to change their fate, as they were already out of contention for the Super Eight.

Despite the emphatic performance, the result had little impact on the tournament standings. Australia finished with two wins from four matches. Oman ended their campaign without a single point, losing all four games heavily.

It was a comprehensive display by Australia. Yet, given their early elimination, the celebrations were muted. The team ended on a high, but the broader campaign will be remembered as a missed opportunity. Get ready for more action. Stay tuned with JUSZNEWS for regular updates!
