Focus on Securing Shipping Routes
The two leaders also highlighted the need to maintain safe and open maritime routes. They agreed that uninterrupted shipping is essential for global trade and energy supply.
“We agreed on the need to ensure freedom of navigation and keeping shipping lines open and secure. Thanked him for his continued support for the welfare of the Indian community in Saudi Arabia,” Modi added.
Part of Ongoing Diplomatic Outreach
This call is part of a series of discussions Modi has held with global leaders since the conflict between Iran and the United States, supported by Israel, began on February 28. These efforts reflect India’s active diplomatic engagement to address the crisis.
Earlier Call with Donald Trump
Earlier in the week, on March 24, Modi also spoke with US President Donald Trump. He described that conversation as a “useful exchange of views on the situation in West Asia”.
Modi reiterated that India supports de-escalation and the early restoration of peace. He also stressed the importance of keeping the Strait of Hormuz open, secure, and accessible for global energy flows. “We agreed to stay in touch regarding efforts towards peace and stability,” Modi said.
