Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) outclassed Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by 65 runs in the 6th match of IPL 2026 at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. After being invited to bat first, Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma gave SRH an explosive start, adding a quickfire 82 runs for the first wicket in just 5.4 overs. With a powerful finishing effort from Heinrich Klaasen and Nitish Kumar Reddy, SRH posted 226/8 in 20 overs. Blessing Muzarabani (4/41 in 4 overs) was the most successful bowler, while Vaibhav Arora also picked up two wickets.
In reply, KKR began aggressively, similar to SRH. Finn Allen, who scored 28 runs off just 7 balls, provided a flying start but lost his wicket in the second over. Angkrish Raghuvanshi then added 37 runs with Ajinkya Rahane for the second wicket before Rahane was dismissed in the fifth over.
Despite losing two quick wickets in the 11th and 12th overs, KKR still looked comfortable in the chase. However, their momentum shifted when Rinku Singh was dismissed in the 14th over. After that, KKR collapsed and were bowled out for 161 in 16 overs.
Jaydev Unadkat (3/21 in 3 overs), Eshan Malinga (2/14 in 2 overs), and Nitish Kumar Reddy (2/17 in 2 overs) demolished KKR’s middle and lower order. Angkrish Raghuvanshi remained the highest scorer for KKR. With this win, SRH became the first team this season to successfully defend a total above 200 runs.
Explosive Start by Head and Abhishek
SRH got off to a flying start thanks to Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma. The pair added 82 runs in just 5.4 overs. Head played a quick innings of 46 runs from 21 balls. Abhishek matched the aggression with 48 runs off 21 balls.
KKR tried to fight back during the middle overs. However, Heinrich Klaasen played a crucial knock of 52 runs from 35 balls. His innings helped SRH collect 51 runs in the last four overs and finish strongly.
SRH Dominate Powerplay
KKR captain Ajinkya Rahane, playing his 200th IPL match, chose to bowl first after winning the toss. Vaibhav Arora began well with three dot balls, troubling Head early.
But the momentum quickly shifted. Head hit multiple boundaries, and Abhishek punished short balls from Blessing Muzarabani. The bowler’s strategy of using short deliveries failed badly.
When Rahane brought in spinners, Sunil Narine bowled a tight over. However, Abhishek attacked Varun Chakravarthy, smashing two sixes and three fours in a 25-run over.
Kartik Tyagi finally dismissed Head, but only after he had done serious damage. SRH ended the powerplay at a strong 84 for 1.
KKR Fight Back in Middle Overs
KKR made a comeback through Blessing Muzarabani. He dismissed Ishan Kishan and Abhishek Sharma within three balls. Kishan was caught in the deep, while Abhishek fell to a low catch that was confirmed after multiple replays.
Soon after, Anukul Roy dismissed Aniket Verma, reducing SRH to 118 for 4. Following this, Klaasen and Nitish Kumar Reddy slowed things down. Between overs 10 and 14, SRH managed only 37 runs.
Klaasen Leads Strong Finish
In the final overs, Klaasen and Reddy increased the scoring rate. Despite some tight bowling, they found boundaries when needed. Reddy hit a crucial six in the 17th over. Klaasen followed with an innovative reverse-lap six. Reddy then struck consecutive fours.
Although Vaibhav Arora picked up two wickets in quick succession, Klaasen stayed till the end. With support from Harsh Dubey and Shivang Kumar, SRH crossed the 220 mark.
KKR’s Strong Start Fades
KKR started their chase well. Finn Allen’s aggressive batting helped them score 25 runs in the first over. Even though Rahane struggled and scored only 8 runs, Raghuvanshi kept the momentum going.
He hit boundaries regularly and helped KKR reach 67 for 2 in five overs. However, Cameron Green was run out in a moment of confusion after a mix-up involving Eshan Malinga.
Despite this setback, Raghuvanshi and Rinku Singh kept KKR in the game. They reached 100 runs in just nine overs, helped by some poor fielding from SRH.
Run-Out Turns the Game
The turning point came with another mix-up. Raghuvanshi was run out after a misunderstanding with Rinku Singh. This dismissal shifted the momentum back to SRH.
Soon after, Nitish Kumar Reddy dismissed both Anukul Roy and Rinku Singh in quick succession. Narine and Ramandeep Singh tried to continue the fight, taking the score to 155 for 6 in 15 overs.
SRH Wrap Up the Match Quickly
Eshan Malinga then removed both Narine and Ramandeep using slower deliveries. Jaydev Unadkat finished the match in style by taking two wickets in two balls.
KKR were bowled out quickly, handing SRH a comfortable 65-run victory.
Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) created history by becoming the first team in IPL 2026 to successfully defend a total. They scored a massive 226 for 8, which is the highest total of the season so far. Even though the score looked strong, it did not seem enough at one stage. However, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) eventually fell short by 65 runs.
Finn Allen started KKR’s chase in an attacking manner. He smashed 24 runs in one over bowled by David Payne. However, Harsh Dubey dismissed him soon after with a caught-and-bowled effort. Angkrish Raghuvanshi then took charge. He scored a fast fifty in just 27 balls and guided KKR to 110 for 3 in 10 overs. But his run-out changed the match completely. After that, Rinku Singh tried to resist, but it was not enough. KKR were bowled out for 161 in just 16 overs. Stay tuned with JUSZNEWS for regular updates!
