US President Donald Trump on Friday congratulated Taranjit Singh Sandhu for taking charge as the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi. He highlighted Sandhu’s long experience in diplomacy and his role in improving ties between India and the United States.

"Congratulations to Taranjit Sandhu on becoming the new Lt Governor of Delhi! As a seasoned Diplomat and former Ambassador to the United States, he has always shown deep commitment to strengthening the U.S.-India relationship," Trump shared.

"Wishing him success in leading Delhi’s progress, and furthering global ties!," he added.

Sandhu Sworn In at Lok Niwas

Taranjit Singh Sandhu took oath as Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor on March 11 at Lok Niwas. The oath was administered by Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya. The ceremony was attended by several leaders, including Rekha Gupta, along with Union ministers and other officials.

Delhi Central to Sandhu’s Career

After the ceremony, Sandhu spoke about his strong connection with Delhi. He said the city has played an important role in his professional life.

“Delhi has several stakeholders and Delhi has also been my ‘karmabhoomi’ (workplace). I have studied and worked here. Together, we will work for Delhi’s development,” he said.

Focus on Cooperation and Problem-Solving

Sandhu stressed the importance of joint efforts in addressing the city’s challenges. He said all stakeholders must work together, regardless of political differences.

Referring to Narendra Modi, he added, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi has a vision for India and Delhi is the Capital. The elected government and all the stakeholders have a responsibility. The challenges will keep on increasing. It is our responsibility to turn challenges into opportunities. Everyone together, irrespective of the party, must work together to find solutions to the various problems.”

CM Rekha Gupta Welcomes the Appointment

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta welcomed Sandhu and expressed hope for faster development in Delhi under his leadership. “I welcome the honourable LG. With his presence, the growth rate of Delhi’s development will increase,” Gupta said.
