Punjab Kings (PBKS) outclassed Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by 54 runs in the 29th match of IPL 2026 at Tira in Mohali. After being asked to bat first, Punjab Kings posted a huge total of 254/7 on the scoreboard in 20 overs. Priyansh Arya played a superb knock of 93 runs off just 37 balls, while Cooper Connolly also scored 87 runs off 46 balls. Prince Yadav (2/25 in 4 overs) was the most successful bowler for LSG, while M. Siddharth also took two wickets.
While chasing, LSG managed to score 200/5 in 20 overs and lost the match by 54 runs. Rishabh Pant, who scored 43 runs off 23 balls, was the highest scorer for LSG. Marco Jansen (2/37 in 4 overs) was the most successful bowler for Punjab Kings. With this win, Punjab Kings are sitting at the top of the table with 11 points, while this is the third straight loss for LSG.
Early drama gives PBKS lifeline
PBKS had a shaky start. Mohammed Shami dismissed Prabhsimran Singh for a golden duck in the first over. Then Mohsin Khan missed two key chances to dismiss Cooper Connolly. LSG did not review a strong lbw appeal, and Mohsin later dropped a simple return catch. These missed chances proved costly.
Arya attacks from the start
Priyansh Arya led PBKS’s aggressive start. He targeted Mohsin and hit four sixes in one over, all on the leg side. Arya raced to 40 runs in just 13 balls during the powerplay. He reached his half-century in only 19 balls.
His smart shot selection stood out. He dominated short balls with pulls and quickly adjusted to field placements. When LSG packed the leg side, he shifted across and scored behind the wicket.
Connolly accelerates after steady start
Connolly began slowly but soon shifted gears. At 110 for 1 in 10 overs, Rishabh Pant brought Shami back into the attack. Connolly attacked immediately, hitting two sixes. He punished both short and full deliveries with ease.
He also played innovative shots, including a scoop over fine leg. His best moment came when he smashed Aiden Markram for three consecutive sixes in a single over that went for 32 runs.
By the 13th over, PBKS had already hit 16 sixes, with Arya and Connolly sharing the load.
LSG fight back briefly
At 179 for 1 after 13 overs, PBKS looked unstoppable. However, LSG managed a short comeback. Prince Yadav dismissed Connolly, breaking a massive 182-run partnership. Soon after, M Siddharth removed Arya.
Mitchell Marsh took a key catch at long-off. Shreyas Iyer also fell during this phase. For a moment, LSG slowed PBKS down.
Late surge lifts PBKS past 250
Despite the brief slowdown, PBKS finished strongly. Marcus Stoinis led the final charge. PBKS scored 40 runs in the last three overs. Overall, they smashed 21 sixes, the highest in an innings this season.
LSG struggle in big chase
LSG made an unusual change by opening with Ayush Badoni and Marsh. However, they started slowly, scoring only 12 runs in the first two overs. Even after reaching 61 for 1 in the powerplay, the target looked too big.
PBKS bowlers seal the win
Vyshak Vijaykumar gave PBKS the first breakthrough by dismissing Badoni for 35. Pant tried to counterattack with early sixes, but Vyshak and Yuzvendra Chahal controlled the game well.
Vyshak used wide yorkers and slower balls effectively, building pressure. Marsh was dismissed soon after, followed by Pant. LSG slipped to 128 for 4 in 13 overs.
Collapse ends LSG hopes
The innings fell apart quickly after that. Nicholas Pooran continued his poor form and got out cheaply again. Markram hit a few big shots, but it only reduced the margin of defeat.
Late dropped catches by PBKS fielders had no major impact.
PBKS strengthen top-two hopes
PBKS delivered a dominant all-round performance. Their strong batting and disciplined bowling put them in a strong position in the tournament. With six wins in a row, they now look well placed to finish in the top two.
Punjab Kings faced a new challenge this season. After successfully chasing big totals earlier, they had to set a target for the first time. On a fresh pitch in New Chandigarh, they delivered a powerful response. They scored 254 runs, the highest total in IPL 2026 so far. This effort went past Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s 249 against Chennai Super Kings.
Lucknow Super Giants failed to keep up and lost by 54 runs. PBKS extended their unbeaten run to six matches, while LSG dropped to eighth place. Stay tuned with JUSZNEWS for regular updates!
