IPL 2026: Mumbai Indians Thrash Gujarat Titans by 99 Runs in One-Sided Contest
Tilak Varma’s unbeaten century powered Mumbai Indians to a dominant 99-run win over Gujarat Titans.

Mumbai Indians (MI) outclassed Gujarat Titans (GT) by 99 runs in the 30th match of IPL 2026 at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. After being asked to bat first, Mumbai Indians posted 199/5 on the scoreboard in 20 overs. Tilak Varma scored a superb, blazing century and remained unbeaten till the end. Naman Dhir supported him well and added 52 runs for the fourth wicket. Kagiso Rabada (3/33 in 4 overs) was the most successful bowler for Gujarat Titans.

While chasing, Gujarat Titans collapsed and were all out for 100 runs with 25 balls to spare. Ashwani Kumar (4/24 in 4 overs) and Mitchell Santner (2/16 in 3 overs) dismantled the Gujarat Titans batting lineup. Jasprit Bumrah also picked up a wicket. With this win, Mumbai Indians are back on the winning path.

Record-Breaking Knock Under Pressure

Tilak scored 82 runs in the last six overs, which is the highest ever in that phase of an IPL innings. He also reached his century in just 45 balls, equalling the fastest hundred for MI alongside Sanath Jayasuriya from the first IPL season.

What made his innings even more remarkable was his slow start. He did not hit a boundary in his first 20 balls. Despite that, he went on to register the highest IPL score after such a beginning.

Naman Dhir Holds the Innings Together

While Tilak dominated later, Naman Dhir played a crucial role earlier. Batting at No. 3, he scored 45 off 32 balls when MI were struggling at 44/3. His innings helped stabilize the team during a tough phase when GT bowlers were in control.

Gujarat Titans Bowlers Dominate Early

GT’s bowlers started strongly. They usually take fewer risks with the bat because their bowlers often restrict opponents to low totals.

Mohammed Siraj bowled tightly, conceding just 15 runs in three overs. Meanwhile, Kagiso Rabada attacked aggressively with pace and accuracy. He dismissed Danish Malewar, Quinton de Kock, and Suryakumar Yadav with deliveries clocked above 150 km/h.

Middle Overs Battle Keeps Game Balanced

In the middle overs, Rashid Khan kept things tight. GT captain Shubman Gill also used Washington Sundar, but that move backfired.

Tilak rotated the strike, while Dhir attacked Sundar, treating him like a medium pacer and hitting boundaries easily. However, Prasidh Krishna dismissed Dhir with a short ball. He has been very effective with that length, taking 23 wickets since IPL 2025 using short deliveries.

Tilak Turns the Game Around

The match changed completely after the 14th over. Surprisingly, Prasidh moved away from his successful short-ball strategy and bowled full deliveries. Tilak punished this mistake and scored heavily.

Rabada returned to control the scoring and finished with 3/33, but Tilak was unstoppable by then. Even Rashid struggled, as Tilak smashed him for boundaries and sixes.

The biggest damage came in the 18th over against Ashok Sharma. Despite following his plans, he was taken apart. Tilak hit innovative shots, including an upper cut for six and a ramp shot over fine leg.

In the final over, Tilak completed his century in style with a six, another six off a full toss, and a boundary.

Bumrah Breaks His Wicket Drought

Jasprit Bumrah made an immediate impact with the ball. He took a wicket on the very first delivery, dismissing B Sai Sudharsan. This was his first IPL wicket after six matches.

MI’s luck continued as Hardik Pandya got Jos Buttler out lbw. Shubman Gill also fell early, marking the first time in 21 matches that GT lost all their top three in the powerplay.

MI Bowlers Seal Dominant Win

Both teams had similar starts in the powerplay, but MI dominated later. Mitchell Santner removed Washington Sundar and Glenn Phillips in the same over, ending any hopes of a comeback.

Ashwani Kumar picked up key wickets as GT kept collapsing under pressure. Finally, AM Ghazanfar wrapped up the innings by dismissing Siraj and Rabada in one over.

Historic Finish for Mumbai Indians

In the end, GT were bowled out far short of the target. Remarkably, Tilak Varma’s 101 alone was more than the entire GT team’s score. This dominant win not only revived MI’s campaign but also highlighted one of the most explosive innings in IPL history.

Player of the Match: Tilak Varma
