The 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections marked a major political shift. Actor-turned-politician C Joseph Vijay led his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), to a stunning debut performance. The party won 108 seats in the 234-member Assembly, breaking the long-standing dominance of DMK and AIADMK.
However, Vijay still fell short of the majority mark of 118 seats. As he works on forming the government, public attention has also shifted to his massive personal wealth.
Vijay’s net worth crosses ₹600 crore
According to his election affidavit, Vijay’s total net worth stands at ₹624 crore. This includes movable assets worth ₹404 crore and immovable assets valued at ₹220 crore.
A major portion of his wealth lies in bank deposits. Notably, ₹213 crore is held in a single savings account at the Indian Overseas Bank’s Saligramam branch. He also maintains fixed deposits worth nearly ₹100 crore across banks such as Axis Bank, HDFC Bank, Indian Overseas Bank, and State Bank of India.
Interestingly, Vijay has limited exposure to the stock market. His equity investments are valued at less than ₹20 lakh, showing a clear preference for safer financial instruments.
His income remains strong. As per his Income Tax returns for 2024–25, he earned ₹184.53 crore through self-employment, interest earnings, and rental income. This aligns with his film career, where he reportedly charged ₹100–120 crore per movie.
Loans to family and close associates
Vijay has no liabilities or loans in his name. Instead, he has lent money to several individuals, including family members and associates.
He gave ₹3 crore to N Anand, a party leader. He also lent ₹12.60 crore to his wife Sangeetha, ₹3.02 crore to his father S A Chandrasekar, ₹8.71 lakh to his mother Shoba Sekar, ₹8.78 lakh to his son Jason Sanjay, and ₹4.60 lakh to his daughter Divya Sasha.
Extensive real estate portfolio
Vijay owns several properties across Chennai, including in Neelankarai, Saligramam, Mylapore, and Egmore. These are collectively valued at around ₹115 crore.
His Neelankarai residence stands out. Located on East Coast Road, this beachfront mansion is estimated to be worth ₹80 crore. The property features modern architecture, large glass panels, open layouts, a private gym, and a swimming pool.
In addition, he owns commercial properties in Thyagaraya Nagar, Sholinganallur, and Parivakkam worth about ₹82.8 crore. He also holds non-agricultural land valued at ₹22 crore and agricultural land in Kodaikanal worth around ₹20 lakh.
Beyond personal holdings, Vijay serves as the Managing Director of Jaya Nagar Property Private Limited, indicating his involvement in the real estate business.
Luxury cars and simple rides
Vijay’s car collection reflects both luxury and simplicity. His vehicles are valued at approximately ₹13.52 crore.
His high-end collection includes a Lexus LM 350h (₹2.20 crore), Toyota Vellfire (₹1.19 crore), BMW i7 (₹2.5 crore), and BMW 5 Series (₹80 lakh). At the same time, he also owns a Maruti Suzuki Swift, which he used during election campaigning.
Reports suggest he earlier owned a Rolls-Royce Ghost worth ₹2 crore but sold it before the elections. He also owns a TVS XL two-wheeler for short-distance travel.
Gold, jewellery and family assets
Vijay owns gold ornaments weighing about 883 grams, valued at roughly ₹1.20 crore. His wife Sangeetha holds a larger collection, with gold jewellery worth around ₹4.07 crore.
The family also owns diamonds valued at nearly ₹1 crore, adding to their overall wealth.
A political debut that changed the game
Vijay’s electoral success is being described as historic. In his very first election, he not only won big but also reshaped Tamil Nadu’s political landscape.
For decades, the state remained dominated by the DMK and AIADMK. However, Vijay managed to break this pattern and attract widespread support, especially from young voters, women, and even sections of older voters.
Many observers believe this was more than just a policy-driven vote. As noted, “this was less a mandate for a poll manifesto than a vote for possibilities.”
Focus shifts to government formation
After the results, Vijay moved quickly to stake claim to form the government. He wrote to Governor R N Ravi, highlighting that his party is the single largest.
“We request an opportunity to demonstrate our majority,” Vijay said in an email, according to party sources.
The governor is expected to consult legal experts before making a decision, as no party has secured a clear majority. Meanwhile, TVK has requested around two weeks to prove its strength on the Assembly floor.
What lies ahead
Vijay has already made history with his debut victory. Now, the next challenge is to secure enough support and prove his majority. Whether he can successfully transition from a popular leader to a stable administrator will become clear in the coming days.
