Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) crushed Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by seven wickets in the 59th match of IPL 2026 at Ekana Stadium. After being invited to bat first, CSK managed to score 187/5 in 20 overs despite losing three quick wickets in the first eight overs. Kartik Sharma and Dewald Brevis added 70 runs for the fourth wicket. When Kartik Sharma was dismissed by Shahbaz Ahmed in the 16th over, CSK were at 142/5. Kartik Sharma scored 71 runs off 42 balls. Shivam Dube and Prashant Veer then added a crucial unbeaten 45-run partnership for the sixth wicket, which helped CSK cross the 180-run mark. Akash Singh (3/26 in 4 overs) remained the most successful bowler for Chennai Super Kings.
While chasing, Mitchell Marsh smashed 90 runs off just 38 balls and tore apart the CSK bowling attack on a difficult Ekana Stadium surface. LSG chased down the target with 20 balls to spare and secured only their fourth win of the season. With this win, LSG remained in the same position on the points table, but the loss badly affected CSK’s chances of reaching the playoffs.
Akash Singh Shines Against Former Team
Fast bowler Akash Singh made a strong impact in his first match of the season. Playing against his former team, he delivered career-best IPL figures of 3 for 26 in four overs.
While Mohammed Shami struggled with his lengths early and conceded boundaries, Akash used hard lengths effectively on the bouncy red-soil pitch. He troubled batters like Ruturaj Gaikwad, Sanju Samson and Urvil Patel with disciplined bowling. After every wicket, Akash celebrated by pulling out a note from his pocket that read: "#Akki on fire - Akash knows how to take wickets in a T20 game"
His accurate bowling helped restrict CSK to 37 for 2 at the end of the powerplay.
Kartik Sharma Leads CSK Recovery
CSK slipped further to 52 for 3 after Urvil Patel got out, but youngster Kartik Sharma played a brilliant counterattacking innings. He built an important partnership with Dewald Brevis, who scored 25 off 16 balls. Kartik attacked left-arm spinner Shahbaz Ahmed confidently and scored 30 runs off just 15 balls against him before getting caught at long-on.
He also impressed against express pace. Kartik backed away against Mayank Yadav and sliced a 144kph delivery for four through point. The young batter reached his fifty in 35 balls and celebrated with a finger-on-the-lips gesture to silence the home crowd. He eventually got out for an excellent 71 off 42 deliveries.
Shivam Dube Gives CSK Late Momentum
Shivam Dube started slowly and managed only one boundary in his first 11 balls. However, he exploded at the end of the innings. Dube smashed 6,4,4,6 off the final four balls he faced and remained unbeaten on 32 from 16 deliveries.
Prashant Veer added 13 not out off ten balls. LSG suffered a slow over-rate penalty in the final over and could place only four fielders outside the circle. Under pressure, Prince Yadav leaked 23 runs in the last over as CSK finished with 187.
Marsh Takes Full Control of the Chase
Marsh attacked from the beginning of the chase. He walked down the pitch to Mukesh Choudhary and hit him for four in the opening over. Mukesh conceded 15 runs in his first over and CSK quickly removed him from the attack.
Marsh then targeted Anshul Kamboj aggressively. In one over, he smashed four sixes and a boundary to completely swing the momentum towards LSG. He also attacked CSK debutant Spencer Johnson and hammered him for three fours and a six.
Without injured all-rounder Jamie Overton, CSK lacked control in the middle overs. Marsh continued to dominate every bowler, while Josh Inglis calmly supported him from the other end.
Pooran Finishes Match in Style
CSK finally broke the 135-run opening partnership in the 12th over when Mukesh dismissed Inglis for 36 off 32 balls with a slower off-cutter. Marsh then suffered an unlucky run-out at the non-striker’s end after Mukesh deflected a shot from Pooran onto the stumps.
Soon after, Johnson dismissed Abdul Samad for seven, but Pooran quickly ended the contest. The explosive left-hander smashed four consecutive sixes off Kamboj and took LSG home comfortably. Kamboj, who had been CSK’s best bowler this season, finished with expensive figures of 0 for 63 in 2.4 overs.
A destructive innings from Mitchell Marsh powered Lucknow Super Giants to a dominant seven-wicket win over Chennai Super Kings and dealt a major blow to CSK’s playoff hopes.
Marsh came out attacking from the very first over and completely changed the game during the powerplay. LSG scored 86 runs in the first six overs, and Marsh alone contributed 56 of them. At the halfway stage of the innings, win predictor gave LSG only a 39.49% chance of victory. After Marsh’s brutal assault, that number jumped to 91.24%.
He narrowly missed a century and fell for 90, just ten runs short of the milestone. But Nicholas Pooran finished the job in style and sealed the chase comfortably.
However, the victory could not lift LSG from the bottom of the table. The defeat pushed CSK from fifth to sixth place in the points table, while Rajasthan Royals moved ahead on net run rate. Stay tuned with JUSZNEWS for regular updates!
