IPL 2026: KKR Stay in Playoff Race After Defeating Mumbai Indians
Kolkata Knight Riders defeated Mumbai Indians by four wickets at Eden Gardens to keep their IPL 2026 playoff hopes alive.

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) defeated Mumbai Indians (MI) by four wickets in the 65th match of IPL 2026 at Eden Gardens. Mumbai Indians managed to score 147/8 in 20 overs after being invited to bat first. Saurabh Dubey (2/34 in 4 overs) and Cameron Green (2/23 in 3 overs) gave early blows to Mumbai Indians, and after those setbacks, MI never recovered. A short but blazing knock from Corbin Bosch towards the end helped Mumbai Indians reach a fighting total. Kartik Tyagi also picked up two wickets, while Sunil Narine (1/13 in 4 overs) remained the most economical bowler for KKR. Corbin Bosch was the highest scorer for Mumbai Indians.

While chasing, KKR lost Finn Allen in the first over. Corbin Bosch (3/30 in 4 overs) then took two quick wickets as KKR slipped to 54/3 after 7.1 overs. Manish Pandey and Rovman Powell added 64 runs for the fourth wicket. Jasprit Bumrah (1/26 in 4 overs) dismissed Manish Pandey in the 15th over. Allah Ghazanfar removed Rovman Powell in the next over, but by then KKR were in complete control of the chase. Rinku Singh and Anukul Roy finished the chase with seven balls to spare.

With this win, KKR kept their playoff hopes alive, although they still depend on other results. Mumbai Indians had already been eliminated but can still affect the qualification chances of other teams.

Cameron Green and Saurabh Dubey destroy MI’s top order

KKR won the toss on a pitch that remained under covers because of rain. The surface offered seam movement and extra bounce early in the innings. The team introduced spin immediately through Anukul Roy before unleashing tall fast bowlers Cameron Green and Saurabh Dubey. The move worked perfectly.

KKR had not taken more than two wickets in the powerplay in any match this season before this game. But Green and Dubey quickly dismantled Mumbai’s top order.

After a cautious start, Ryan Rickelton attempted an attacking shot but mistimed it. Manish Pandey completed an excellent catch at backward point. Green then troubled Naman Dhir with movement outside off stump before dismissing him for a three-ball duck. Soon after, Green produced another key moment in the field. He ran back nearly 33 metres to take a difficult catch and remove Rohit Sharma.

Suryakumar Yadav looked dangerous during a quick start, but Dubey cramped him for room with a sharp delivery from around the wicket. Suryakumar ended up playing the ball onto his stumps after scoring 15 off just six balls.

Narine and Varun tighten grip after rain break

A one-hour rain interruption slowed the game, but KKR’s spinners took complete control once play resumed. Sunil Narine and Varun Chakravarthy exploited the turning pitch brilliantly. Tilak Varma and Hardik Pandya struggled badly against spin and recorded one of the slowest scoring partnerships for No. 5 and No. 6 batters in IPL history after facing at least 20 balls each.

Varun nearly dismissed Tilak with a return catch, but wicketkeeper Angkrish Raghuvanshi collided during the attempt and suffered a concussion. KKR still maintained control. Kartik Tyagi later dismissed Tilak despite the short boundary on the leg side.

Narine then cleaned up Hardik Pandya for the first time in T20 cricket by bowling him through the gate. Will Jacks also fell after a run-out while attempting a risky second run. Late hitting from Corbin Bosch helped Mumbai Indians recover slightly. Bosch smashed 32 runs off 18 balls and guided MI to 147.

KKR lose early wickets during chase

KKR’s chase started aggressively as Finn Allen struck two boundaries off Deepak Chahar. However, he soon dragged the ball back onto his stumps. Mumbai Indians then found some hope through Corbin Bosch.

Bosch dismissed Ajinkya Rahane with a superb delivery that moved away after pitching. He later removed Cameron Green as well. Still, KKR remained calm despite slipping to 54 for 3 in 7.1 overs.

Manish Pandey and Rovman Powell steady KKR

Manish Pandey and Rovman Powell rescued KKR with important knocks in the middle overs. The dew made conditions difficult for Mumbai bowlers, while fielding mistakes added to their problems. Hardik Pandya forced a top edge from Powell, but confusion between fielders allowed the batter another chance.

Bosch also missed another opportunity after Powell attacked spinner Raghu SharmaJasprit Bumrah finally broke through with a brilliant delivery that cleaned up Pandey using sharp seam movement with an old ball.

However, by then KKR needed only 30 runs from 30 balls. Bosch later produced a stunning catch to dismiss Powell, but Rinku Singh and Anukul Roy guided KKR home safely with seven balls remaining.
