Trump Confirms Heated Call With Netanyahu, Signals Possible Meeting With Mojtaba Khamenei
US President Donald Trump said he would like to meet Iran’s new Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei and confirmed having a heated phone call with Benjamin Netanyahu over Israel’s military operations in Lebanon.

US President Donald Trump has said he would like to meet Iran’s new Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, in the future as diplomatic efforts between Washington and Tehran continue despite rising tensions in the region.

Speaking on the New York Post's Pod Force One podcast, Trump said he believes Mojtaba Khamenei is the person making the final decisions in Iran and suggested a meeting could take place if circumstances allow.

“I would like to meet him, and we probably will meet at some point, depending on how it all works out,” said Trump.

Mojtaba Khamenei Took Over After His Father's Death

The conflict involving the US, Israel and Iran escalated dramatically on February 28 when military strikes targeted Iran. The initial wave of attacks resulted in the death of Iran’s former Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei.

Following his death, Iran appointed his son, 56-year-old Mojtaba Khamenei, as the country's new Supreme Leader. Since then, Mojtaba Khamenei has become a central figure in Iran's political and military decision-making.

Trump Claims New Iranian Leader Was Injured

During the podcast, Trump also commented on reports regarding Mojtaba Khamenei's health. The US president claimed that the new Iranian leader may have suffered serious injuries during the US-Israeli military strikes. "I'm not hearing he's doing great. If you believe the stories, he's missing a lot of different parts," Trump said on the podcast on Tuesday.

However, Trump did not provide evidence to support the claim.

Trump Admits Heated Exchange With Netanyahu

Trump also discussed his recent phone conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Reports had suggested that the discussion between the two leaders became unusually tense.

According to media reports, Trump strongly criticised Netanyahu over Israel's military actions in Lebanon. Sources claimed the US president even shouted at the Israeli leader during the call. When asked directly whether he used harsh language during the conversation, Trump confirmed that he did.

"You said, 'Are you f-ing crazy? What are you f-ing doing? I helped you stay out of jail.' Is that true? Did you speak to him in those terms?" the interviewer asked.

"I did," Trump responded.

He then explained why he reacted so strongly.

"I was a little bit perturbed at his constantly fighting with Lebanon. I said, 'Bibi, we gotta stop this," he added.

Lebanon Conflict Creates Friction Between Allies

The exchange reportedly took place as Israel expanded its military operations in southern Lebanon. Israeli forces have intensified their campaign against Hezbollah, the Iran-backed armed group that remains one of Israel's main regional adversaries. The military escalation has added pressure on the relationship between Washington and Tel Aviv.

While Israel continues its operations in Lebanon, the Trump administration is simultaneously pursuing diplomatic talks with Iran in an effort to reduce regional tensions.

US Pursues Broader Deal With Iran

The United States is working toward a wider agreement with Tehran that could address several key issues. Among the priorities are reopening the Strait of Hormuz, easing regional tensions and imposing restrictions on Iran's nuclear programme.

Trump's comments suggest that his administration remains interested in maintaining direct communication with Iran's leadership despite ongoing military and political challenges.

Signs of Strain in US-Israel Relations

The reported argument between Trump and Netanyahu has also highlighted growing differences between the two allies. Although the United States and Israel remain close partners, disagreements over military strategy and regional diplomacy have become increasingly visible.

Trump's public acknowledgment of the heated conversation underscored the challenges facing Washington as it balances support for Israel with its efforts to negotiate a broader settlement with Iran.
