Gujarat Giants, led by Ashleigh Gardner, delivered a commanding performance to defeat UP Warriorz by 81 runs in Match 15 of TATA Women's Premier League 2025. As a result, they climbed to second place on the points table. Beth Mooney was the star of the night, scoring an unbeaten 96 off 59 balls. Her brilliant knock set the stage before Gujarat’s bowlers secured the victory in style.
Mooney’s Masterclass Lays the Foundation
After winning the toss, UP Warriorz chose to field first. At first, their decision seemed right when Chinelle Henry dismissed D. Hemalatha in the opening over. However, Gujarat Giants quickly gained control.
Beth Mooney and Harleen Deol built a steady partnership. Initially, they played cautiously, but soon, they shifted gears and accelerated the scoring. By the end of the powerplay, Gujarat had reached 40/1.
Meanwhile, Mooney showcased her skill with excellent footwork and precise placement. As a result, she reached her second fifty of the season and her fifth in WPL history. On the other hand, Harleen kept the scoreboard ticking with well-timed strokes and quick running between the wickets.
Just as she neared her half-century, Sophie Ecclestone produced a stunning delivery to dismiss Harleen, ending a vital 101-run stand. Even so, Mooney remained in control. In response, she smashed three consecutive boundaries off Kranti Goud and continued to dominate the bowling attack.
Towards the end, Ashleigh Gardner and Deandra Dottin added valuable runs, ensuring Gujarat finished strongly at 186/5. Mooney remained unbeaten on 96, making it the third-highest individual score in WPL history.
UP Warriorz Collapse Under Pressure
In pursuit of 187, UP Warriorz struggled right from the beginning. From the first over, Gujarat’s bowlers maintained relentless pressure.
To begin with, Deandra Dottin struck twice, dismissing Kiran Navgire and Georgia Voll early on. Consequently, UP Warriorz were immediately on the back foot. Soon after, Kashvee Gautam delivered a brilliant in-swinger to remove Vrinda Dinesh, deepening their troubles.
Shortly afterward, UPW captain Deepti Sharma fell during the powerplay. As a result, the team slumped to 29/4, making the chase even more difficult.
Gujarat’s Bowlers Dominate the Second Innings
As the innings progressed, Gujarat’s spinners tightened their grip. Ashleigh Gardner removed Shweta Sehrawat, while N. Charani struck a crucial blow by dismissing Grace Harris (25 off 30), who was UPW’s only hope. Consequently, by the halfway mark, UP Warriorz were reeling at 48/6.
At this point, Chinelle Henry tried to fight back, scoring 28 off 14 balls. She smashed two fours and a six off Meghna Singh, briefly lifting UPW’s spirits. However, her resistance was short-lived as she mistimed a shot and was caught at deep mid-wicket off Tanuja Kanwer.
After that, Gujarat Giants quickly wrapped up the game. Kashvee Gautam struck twice in two balls, removing any remaining resistance. Finally, Tanuja Kanwer sealed the victory by dismissing the last batter, bowling UP Warriorz out for just 105.
A Statement Win for Gujarat Giants
Overall, Gujarat Giants completely outplayed UP Warriorz in all areas. Mooney’s brilliant knock provided the perfect platform, while the bowlers backed it up with a ruthless display. Furthermore, this dominant win not only improved their net run rate but also strengthened their playoff chances.
