Iran has warned that it is ready to respond with force if the United States launches another round of attacks on its infrastructure. Tehran says it has prepared a "comprehensive plan" that includes targeting important Israeli facilities and US energy assets across the Middle East.
The warning comes as reports suggest Washington is considering new military action against Iran, raising fears that tensions could once again erupt into a wider regional conflict.
Iran Says It Is Fully Prepared
A senior Iranian security official made the warning while speaking to the semi-official Tasnim news agency. The official was responding to reports that the United States is weighing fresh military strikes against Iran.
According to the official, Iran has already completed detailed plans to retaliate if attacked. The official described reports of possible US and Israeli attacks on Iranian infrastructure as “a kind of madness.”
He added that Iran's response would include strikes on “the vital infrastructure of the Zionist regime and the US energy infrastructure in the region.” “We are ready for it,” the official said.
He also claimed that Iran’s armed forces had already demonstrated both their military strength and willingness to act during the recent 40-day conflict as well as in the weeks that followed.
Trump Continues to Warn Iran
Iran’s latest statement follows repeated warnings from US President Donald Trump. In recent weeks, Trump has threatened to target Iranian infrastructure, including power plants and bridges, if Tehran continues delaying an agreement with Washington.
Similar warnings were made during the 40-day conflict that began on February 28, when Trump repeatedly said the United States could bomb Iranian infrastructure unless Iran accepted US demands. The exchange of threats has further increased tensions between the two countries.
US Considers New Military Action
Reports indicate that the United States is reviewing plans for another military operation against Iran. According to CBS News, US officials are discussing the possibility of launching strikes as early as this weekend. However, the report said no final decision has been made, and the operation could still be cancelled.
Officials said US Central Command has prepared several military options for President Trump to consider. One proposal reportedly includes a two-week military campaign focused on destroying Iran’s missile infrastructure. Military planners have also examined possible attacks on Iran’s energy facilities.
Energy Infrastructure Remains a Major Concern
Despite reviewing military options, the Trump administration has not approved strikes on Iran’s energy sector. US officials are concerned that such attacks could trigger Iranian retaliation against oil and gas infrastructure across the Gulf region.
Any disruption to major energy facilities could affect global oil supplies and create fresh instability in international energy markets. These risks remain a key reason why Washington has so far avoided approving attacks on Iran’s energy assets.
Israel Pushes for Energy Sector Strikes
Israel has reportedly encouraged stronger military action against Iran’s energy infrastructure. Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz recently said Israel supports targeting Iran’s energy sector to increase economic pressure on Tehran. However, Katz indicated that the United States has not yet agreed to such operations.
Nuclear Facilities Also Under Review
US officials have also examined military plans targeting Iran’s nuclear programme. Among the reported targets is the underground Pickaxe Mountain nuclear site located south of Tehran. Officials stressed that discussions remain ongoing and that no final decision has been taken regarding any strike on Iranian nuclear facilities.
White House Maintains Pressure
The White House has continued to signal that President Trump is prepared to take military action if necessary. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said Iran would continue to face consequences unless it entered what President Trump considers meaningful negotiations.
The administration has maintained that all military options remain available if diplomacy fails.
Regional Tensions Continue to Rise
The latest exchange of warnings has increased concerns that another military confrontation could break out in West Asia. If fresh attacks occur, they could further destabilise the region, damage critical energy infrastructure and increase risks to global oil markets.
