Sidhu and Gambhir’s Poetic Exchange Steals the Show Amid Celebrations
Gautam Gambhir secured his first title as India’s head coach as the team triumphed over New Zealand in the ICC Champions Trophy final.

Gautam Gambhir led India to victory in the ICC Champions Trophy final against New Zealand. This win marked his first major trophy as head coach. He took charge after Rahul Dravid stepped down following India’s T20 World Cup 2024 triumph. Initially, many criticized Gambhir, especially for Test cricket results. However, he silenced his critics by guiding India to their second Champions Trophy title.

Meanwhile, as celebrations erupted at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, a special moment took place between Gambhir and Navjot Singh Sidhu.

Gambhir Surprises Sidhu with Poetry

Navjot Singh Sidhu, known for his poetic style in commentary, witnessed an unexpected moment. To everyone’s surprise, Gambhir recited a shayari in front of him.

"Fann kuchalne ka hunar seekhiye janab...," Gambhir began. Without hesitation, Sidhu completed it, saying, "Saapon ke darr se jungle nahi chhore jaate."

Soon after, Sidhu shared the moment on social media. He praised Gambhir and wrote:

"The Shayari that he asked me to narrate has a lot to say … he @GautamGambhir is here to stay … wish him and the Indian cricket team the very best …. You made India proud brother."

Afterward, Sidhu challenged Gambhir to do Bhangra. However, Gambhir hesitated. Although he struck a Bhangra pose later, he refused to dance, even after Sidhu insisted multiple times.

Rohit Sharma Thanks Gambhir for His Support

Later, India’s captain Rohit Sharma expressed gratitude toward Gambhir. He credited him for backing his attacking approach.

"It (attacking game) is not natural to me, but I really wanted to do it. When you try something new, you need the team and management to back you. Fortunately, they stood by me. In the ODI World Cup, I spoke to Rahul bhai about this, and he supported me. Now, Gauti bhai has done the same. I have played in a different style for years. However, I wanted to try a new approach to get better results," Rohit said.
