IPL 2025: Gujarat Titans Clinch 36-Run Victory Over Mumbai Indians
Gujarat Titans secured a dominant 36-run win over Mumbai Indians, powered by Sai Sudharshan’s 63 and disciplined bowling from Siraj and Krishna.

Gujarat Titans (GT) secured a commanding 36-run win over Mumbai Indians (MI) in the ninth match of IPL 2025. Sai Sudharshan’s crucial 63-run knock, Mohammed Siraj’s early breakthrough, and Prasidh Krishna’s tight bowling helped GT dominate. The match took place at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad. MI won the toss and chose to bowl first.

Gujarat’s Strong Start

Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharshan opened for GT, while Trent Boult bowled the first over for MI. Gill struck a boundary on the last ball, taking GT to 7/0 after one over. Deepak Chahar bowled from the other end. Both openers found boundaries, keeping the scoreboard ticking. After four overs, GT reached 31/0.

Mujeeb Ur Rahman bowled the fifth over, but Sudharshan attacked him with a six and a boundary. Gill also hit a four, adding 15 runs in that over. GT reached 46/0 after five overs. Gill smashed a six in the sixth over, bringing up a 50-run partnership. Extra runs from wides and misfields helped GT reach 66/0 after six overs.

Mumbai Strikes Back

Hardik Pandya introduced himself in the seventh over and conceded only five runs. Mitchell Santner bowled the eighth over, tightening the scoring rate. After eight overs, GT stood at 75/0. Mumbai’s strategy worked as Pandya dismissed Gill in the ninth over for 38 runs. Jos Buttler arrived at No. 3, and GT reached 79/1 after nine overs.

Buttler wasted no time, smashing two sixes and a four in the tenth over. GT crossed 100 runs in 10.5 overs. Mumbai’s bowlers bowled well but leaked occasional runs due to misfields. Satyanarayana Raju bowled the 13th over, and Buttler capitalized on the width to hit a boundary. After 13 overs, GT stood at 121/1.

Middle-Order Contributions and Final Overs

Buttler and Sudharshan completed a 50-run partnership. However, Mujeeb Ur Rahman dismissed Buttler for 39 in the 14th over. Shahrukh Khan came in at No. 4. Five runs from a wide delivery pushed GT to 134/2. Boult returned in the 15th over, and Sudharshan completed his half-century in 33 balls. After 15 overs, GT stood at 140/2.

Shahrukh Khan hit a six but lost his wicket to Pandya. Sherfane Rutherford replaced him at No. 5. GT reached 151/3 after 16 overs. Rutherford and Sudharshan then launched big shots against Satyanarayana Raju. However, Boult dismissed Sudharshan in the 18th over for 63 runs.

Rahul Tewatia got run out on the first ball of the 19th over. Deepak Chahar removed Rutherford on the next ball. Rashid Khan and Kagiso Rabada came in. Rabada hit a six, taking GT to 179/6 after 19 overs. Satyanarayana Raju bowled the final over, dismissing Rashid Khan. Rabada got run out on the last ball, and GT finished at 196/8. Around 20-25 runs came from wides and misfields.

Mumbai Indians’ Chase Falls Short

Mumbai needed 197 runs to win. Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton opened, while Mohammed Siraj bowled the first over. Rohit hit back-to-back boundaries but got bowled by Siraj. Tilak Varma arrived at No. 3, and MI reached 9/1 after one over.

Varma attacked Rabada in the second over with two fours and a six. However, Siraj bowled tightly in the third over. Ishant Sharma delivered a brilliant fourth over, conceding just two runs. MI stood at 32/1 after four overs. Siraj struck again in the fifth over, bowling out Rickelton. Suryakumar Yadav (SKY) came in at No. 4 and hit a six. MI reached 44/2 after five overs.

Rashid Khan started the attack in the sixth over. A loud LBW appeal against Varma was overturned on review. After six overs, MI stood at 48/2, with Varma on 20 and SKY on 9.

Middle Overs Pressure

Varma broke a 10-ball silence with a boundary in the eighth over, and SKY followed with a six. MI moved to 69/2 after eight overs. Sai Kishore came to bowl in the ninth over, and SKY hit a four. The duo continued their partnership, completing 50 runs in the tenth over. MI reached 86/2.

SKY smashed a six off Sai Kishore in the 11th over. Prasidh Krishna then dismissed Varma in the 12th over for 39 runs. MI stood at 99/3. Robin Minz arrived at No. 5 but fell to Sai Kishore in the 13th over. MI dropped to 108/4.

Gujarat Seals the Win

Hardik Pandya joined SKY at No. 6, but Prasidh Krishna and Sai Kishore applied pressure. Krishna’s plan worked, and he dismissed SKY in the 16th over for 48 runs. MI struggled at 120/5. Rabada bowled a tight 17th over, dismissing Pandya on the last ball. MI slipped to 124/6.

Mitchell Santner and Naman Dhir tried to fight back. Dhir hit two boundaries in the 18th over, but MI still lagged at 134/6. With little fireworks by Santner and Naman Dhir at the end, MI managed only 160 runs in 20 overs, losing by 36 runs.

Brief Scorecard

Gujarat Titans (GT): 196/8 (20)
Sai Sudharshan 63(41), Jos Buttler 39(24), Shubman Gill 38(27);
Hardik Pandya 2/29(4), Mujeeb Ur Rahman 1/28(2)
Mumbai Indians (MI): 160/6 (20)
Suryakumar Yadav 48(28), Tilak Varma 39(36), Mitchell Santner 18(9);
Prasidh Krishna 2/18(4), Mohammed Siraj 2/34(4)
Player of the Match: Prasidh Krishna

Shubman Gill must feel relieved after the victory. Every Gujarat Titans player played a role in the win against Mumbai Indians. Sai Sudharshan batted with great responsibility. Shubman Gill and Jos Buttler took risks, and their contributions made a big impact. Although Mumbai Indians had a strong bowling attack, they gave away 20-25 extra runs, which proved costly in the end. Suryakumar Yadav showed his potential, but nobody stood with him. Their batting lineup looks strong on paper, but they need to improve both their batting and fielding. Stay tuned with JUSZNEWS for regular updates!
