Suvendu Adhikari Claims Mass Exodus of Hindus After Violence in Dhulian
BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari claimed over 400 Hindus fled Dhulian after Waqf law violence, blaming the Mamata government for failing to maintain law and order.

BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari alleged that more than 400 Hindus had fled their homes in Dhulian, located in West Bengal’s Murshidabad district. According to him, the exodus followed violent protests against the Waqf (Amendment) Act, which reportedly resulted in three deaths.

BJP Blames Mamata Banerjee's Government

Adhikari held the Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress government responsible for what he described as the rise of radical elements. He suggested that the ruling party’s alleged appeasement politics had created an unsafe environment for Hindus in the state.

Displaced Families Seek Shelter

The BJP leader stated that the displaced families had crossed a river and taken refuge in a school located in Malda district. He also shared photos and videos on social media showing people narrating their experiences. One individual claimed his house had been set on fire and that the police had failed to intervene.

Appeal for Protection and Safe Return

Adhikari urged security agencies, including the Border Security Force (BSF) and state police, to ensure the safety and return of the displaced families. He described the violence as a severe breakdown of law and order and warned that the social fabric of Bengal was at risk.

Police Confirm Deaths and Property Damage

West Bengal Police reported that three people had died during the unrest on Friday night. They also confirmed that several vehicles had been set ablaze. Authorities insisted that the situation was now under control.

BJP Criticizes State’s Response

Adhikari further criticized the West Bengal government for ignoring what he termed as ongoing religious persecution. He emphasized that such violence had forced Hindus to run for their lives in their own state, and accused the government of failing to protect its citizens.

Shehzad Poonawalla Joins the Criticism

BJP national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla also condemned the Mamata Banerjee administration. He accused the state of enabling targeted violence against Hindus and claimed that religious symbols were desecrated, temples vandalized, and homes and shops set on fire. He expressed shock that such acts were occurring in the land of Swami Vivekananda.

BSF Deployed Following Court Order

IG Karni Singh Shekhawat of the South Bengal Frontier stated that the BSF had sent five companies to assist the state police. He explained that their role was to support local authorities, not act independently. The deployment came after the Calcutta High Court ordered central forces to be sent to the affected area immediately.

Court Demands Detailed Reports

The High Court also asked both the West Bengal government and the Centre to submit detailed reports about the incident. The next hearing on the matter has been scheduled for April 17.
