Hero Hockey India League 2024-25: Hardik Singh’s Goal Secures UP Rudras 1-0 Win Over Team Gonasika
UP Rudras clinched a 1-0 victory over Team Gonasika, with captain Hardik Singh scoring the lone goal to secure third place in the Hero Hockey India League.
UP Rudras secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Team Gonasika in the Men's Hero Hockey India League 2024-25 at the Marang Gomke Jaipal Singh Munda Hockey Stadium. This hard-fought win elevated Rudras to third place in the points table as phase I concluded.

Hardik Singh Leads the Charge

Captain Hardik Singh scored the only goal of the match. Although Gonasika started strong, creating penalty corner opportunities early on, they failed to capitalize. Just before the first-quarter whistle, Gonasika’s captain, Manpreet Singh, made a defensive error, resulting in a penalty stroke for Rudras. Without hesitation, Hardik Singh converted the stroke, giving Rudras a crucial 1-0 lead.

Missed Chances for Gonasika

In the second quarter, Gonasika continued to search for an equalizer. They earned several penalty corners, but their dragflicker, Timothee Clement, was off target each time. Meanwhile, Rudras' defense, guided by Hardik Singh, remained steadfast. Consequently, the quarter ended with no change in the score.

Gonasika’s Persistent Efforts

Gonasika came out aggressively in the third quarter. Just three minutes in, they earned a penalty corner, but Rudras’ rushers blocked the shot. Despite dominating possession, Rudras continued to thwart Gonasika's advances. Later in the quarter, Gonasika had their seventh penalty corner but mismanaged the opportunity. As a result, the third quarter ended scoreless.

Tension in the Final Quarter

The final quarter proved to be intense. Gonasika managed another penalty corner in the 50th minute but failed to convert. Manpreet set up Jack Waller for a promising chance, but Rudras' defense held strong. In the dying minutes, Gonasika’s Clement took a fine shot, but Rudras' goalkeeper, James Mazarelo, made an incredible save. Gonasika had one last penalty corner to level the game, but Rudras held their ground to secure the win.
