Shrachi Rarh Bengal Tigers secured a 5-3 victory over UP Rudras in the Men's Hero Hockey India League 2024-25. The match, held at the Birsa Munda Hockey Stadium in Rourkela, saw a strong performance from the Tigers, especially in the first quarter.

Early Advantage for the Tigers

Initially, UP Rudras showed promise with Sudeep Chirmako and Lalit Kumar Upadhyay leading the charge into the circle. However, they failed to capitalize on these early opportunities. Consequently, the Tigers seized the moment and took the lead in the eighth minute. Gauthier Boccard's brilliant solo run ended with a goal that left the Rudras’ goalkeeper, James Mazarelo, unable to respond.

Jugraj Singh Breaks Rudras’ Defense

Moreover, the Tigers quickly extended their lead. In the 10th minute, they earned a penalty corner, breaking the Rudras' perfect defense record. Jugraj Singh’s drag flick found the back of the net, giving the Tigers a 2-0 advantage.

Relentless Pressure

Shortly after, in the 14th minute, the Tigers struck again. Although Mazarelo saved Sebastien Dockier’s initial shot, Sukhjeet Singh was quick to score on the rebound. Despite the Rudras’ protests over a possible foul, the TV umpire upheld the goal, securing a 3-0 lead for the Tigers as the first quarter ended.

Rudras’ Efforts to Respond

As the second quarter began, the Rudras tried to fight back, earning a penalty corner in the 21st minute. However, the Tigers' defense, led by Jamie Carr and Surender Kumar, held firm. Although the Rudras continued to press, they could not find the back of the net.

Extending the Lead

Moving into the third quarter, Jugraj Singh converted another penalty corner, bringing the Tigers' lead to 4-0. Even though the Rudras came close to scoring in the 40th minute, Florent van Aubel's heroic defense kept the Tigers' lead intact.

Tigers Strengthen Their Position

Early in the fourth quarter, the Tigers counterattacked, with Abhishek scoring to make it 5-0. Meanwhile, the Rudras kept pushing and were rewarded when Hardik Singh converted a penalty stroke in the 47th minute.

Rudras Fight Back

Subsequently, the Rudras reduced the gap further. Sam Ward scored from a penalty corner in the 51st minute and added another in the 59th minute. Despite their late surge, the Rudras could not overcome the Tigers' lead. As a result of this win, the Bengal Tigers climbed to second place in the standings with 12 points, while the Rudras dropped to fourth with nine points.
