Kerala Blasters FC displayed remarkable resilience to secure a goalless draw against NorthEast United FC at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Kochi during the
Indian Super League 2024-25. Despite being reduced to 10 men early on, the home team managed to hold their ground and earn a valuable point.
Early Opportunities Set the Tone
Right from the start, both teams sought to break the deadlock. In the 12th minute, Jithin MS came close for NorthEast United after connecting with Mohammed Bemammer’s corner. However, his effort went high and wide. Shortly after, Kerala’s Noah Sadaoui attempted a long-range strike, aiming for the left corner, but the shot missed its mark.
Moreover, Kerala Blasters launched a promising attack moments later. Unfortunately, Noah mistimed his run and was flagged offside, cutting short their momentum.
Turning Point: A Game-Changing Red Card
The match took a dramatic turn in the 30th minute. Aibanbha Dohling of Kerala Blasters received a red card for violent conduct, leaving his team with 10 players for the remainder of the match. Consequently, NorthEast United gained a numerical advantage and tried to exploit it.
As halftime approached, Alaaeddine Ajaraie had two chances to put NorthEast ahead. First, he unleashed a powerful shot from outside the box, but Kerala’s defense blocked it. Then, Sachin Suresh made a stunning save to deny Ajaraie’s effort from close range, keeping the score level at halftime.
Second Half: Kerala’s Defense Stands Firm
After the break, Kerala Blasters came out strong despite their disadvantage. Noah Sadaoui and Milos Drincic combined well to create pressure. In fact, Noah’s powerful shot forced a solid save from Gurmeet Singh in goal.
Meanwhile, NorthEast United responded with promising plays. Guillermo Fernández and Buanthanglun Samte crafted a chance in the 56th minute, but Samte’s shot went off target. Later, Nestor Albiach set up Ajaraie outside the box, but his shot sailed over the bar, adding to the visitors’ frustration.
In the 82nd minute, Fernández had the best chance of the game. Positioned inside the box, he attempted to score, but Kerala’s defense worked together to block the shot and preserve the clean sheet.
Key Performer: Milos Drincic
Milos Drincic was the standout player for Kerala Blasters. He completed 29 of 35 passes, made nine clearances, and contributed a crucial tackle. His defensive leadership was instrumental in holding off NorthEast United’s attack.
