IPL 2025: Late Collapse Costs RCB as SRH Roar to 42-Run Win
Sunrisers Hyderabad crushed RCB by 42 runs, despite being out of the playoff race, as Bengaluru collapsed from 167/3 to 189 all out in a dramatic chase.

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) defeated Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) by 42 runs in the 65th match of IPL 2025 at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow. SRH posted a massive total of 231/6 on the scoreboard, thanks to a blazing knock by Ishan Kishan and quickfire cameos from Abhishek and Aniket.

While chasing, Virat Kohli and Phil Salt gave RCB a fiery start. Things were going in RCB's favor until the 15th over, when they were cruising at 167/3. However, from that point, RCB lost their remaining 7 wickets for just 22 runs and were bowled out for 189 in 19.5 overs. Eshan Malinga (2/37 in 4 overs) and Pat Cummins (3/28 in 4 overs) did the damage in the death overs.

Sunrisers Hyderabad were already out of the playoff race. RCB have one more match remaining to try and finish in the top two of the group stage.

SRH Starts Aggressively

Royal Challengers Bengaluru won the toss and chose to bowl. Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head opened the innings for Sunrisers Hyderabad. Yash Dayal bowled the first over. Abhishek started with a single, while Head struck a boundary. The over ended with 8 runs.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar bowled the second over. Head hit a boundary, and Abhishek followed up with another four and a six. SRH scored 18 runs in the over. Yash Dayal returned for the third over. Abhishek continued the momentum with a four and a six. After three overs, SRH reached 39/0.

Early Breakthrough for RCB

Lungi Ngidi joined the attack. Head welcomed him with a boundary. Abhishek smashed a six and a four, completing a 50-run partnership. However, Ngidi got him out for 34 off 17. SRH were 54/1 after four overs. Bhuvneshwar bowled the fifth and dismissed Head for 17. Klaasen came in next, and Ishan Kishan survived a dropped catch on the final ball. RCB gave away just 3 runs and picked up a wicket.

Klaasen Shows Power

Ngidi continued with the sixth over. Ishan hit a four, and Klaasen ended the over with a six. SRH moved to 71/2 after six overs. Ishan was on 9, and Klaasen on 8.

Suyash Sharma bowled the seventh. Klaasen smashed a four and a six. Krunal Pandya bowled the eighth and kept it tight, giving away just 5 runs. SRH were at 89/2. Suyash returned for the ninth. Ishan hit two fours, and Klaasen added another. However, Suyash dismissed Klaasen for 24. Aniket Verma joined Ishan. SRH scored 14 runs in the over.

Krunal bowled the tenth over. Ishan smashed a six. SRH reached 113/3 after ten overs. Ishan was on 31, and Aniket on 3. In the 11th over, Aniket exploded with a four and two sixes, scoring 19 in total. Ishan hit another six in the 12th over, but Aniket fell for 26 off 9. Nitish Kumar Reddy walked in. SRH stood at 147/4.

Ishan’s Fifty Powers SRH

Ngidi returned for the 13th over. Ishan hit a four to take SRH past 150. Krunal bowled the 14th over. Ishan reached his fifty in 28 balls with a double and added another boundary. SRH were at 160/4. Shepherd came in and bowled the 15th over, removing Nitish for 4. Abhinav Manohar came next. RCB conceded just 4 runs in that over.

SRH Continues to Dominate

Bhuvneshwar bowled the 16th over. Manohar smashed a six. Shepherd bowled the 17th over. Ishan hit a six, but Manohar got out on the last ball for 12. SRH stood at 188/6. Cummins came in next.

Bhuvneshwar’s 18th over saw Ishan hit a four and a six, taking SRH to 200. Ngidi bowled the 19th over and Cummins hit a six. In the final over, Ishan struck a four and a six. SRH ended at 231/6. Ishan remained unbeaten on 94 off 48 balls. Cummins was not out on 13 from 6 balls.

RCB Starts the Chase Strongly

Chasing 232, Virat Kohli and Phil Salt opened for RCB. Cummins bowled the first over. Kohli hit a four, and RCB scored 10 runs. Unadkat bowled the second over. Kohli hit another boundary, and Salt opened his account. Cummins returned for the third over. Kohli smashed two more fours. RCB reached 31/0 after 3 overs.

Harshal Patel bowled the fourth over. Kohli hit two boundaries again. In the fifth over, Kohli got another four, and Salt hit one too, bringing up a 50-run stand. Malinga bowled the sixth. Kohli hit a six, and Salt added a four and a six. RCB were 72/0 after six overs.

SRH Fights Back

Harsh Dubey bowled the seventh over. Salt hit a six, but Dubey removed Kohli on the last ball for 43. RCB were 80/1. Mayank Agarwal came in next. Harshal bowled the eighth over. Both Agarwal and Salt hit boundaries and Salt smashed a six. RCB moved to 96/1.

Salt Hits Fifty

Dubey bowled the ninth over. Salt hit another six, taking RCB to 100. Malinga bowled the 10th over. Salt completed his half-century in 27 balls. RCB reached 118/1. Salt was on 55, and Agarwal on 10.

Quick Wickets Slow RCB

Nitish Kumar Reddy bowled the 11th over. He dismissed Agarwal for 11. Rajat Patidar joined Salt. Salt finished the over with a six. RCB were at 127/2. Cummins bowled the 12th over and removed Salt for 62. Jitesh Sharma came in and immediately hit a six. RCB were 138/3.

Pressure Builds on RCB

Harshal bowled the 13th over. Patidar hit a four. RCB added 10 runs. Unadkat bowled the 14th over. Jitesh hit a four and a six, bringing RCB to 150. Reddy bowled a tight 15th over, giving away just 4 runs. RCB stood at 167/3.

Collapse Begins

Malinga bowled the 16th over. Patidar got run out for 18. On the last ball, Malinga dismissed Romario Shepherd for a duck. RCB were 174/5. Krunal Pandya came next. Unadkat bowled the 17th over and dismissed Jitesh for 24. Tim David joined in. Krunal hit a boundary. RCB moved to 179/6.

Malinga bowled the 18th over and dismissed Tim David for 1. Bhuvneshwar Kumar came in and scored 3 runs. Krunal hit a four. RCB were 186/7. Cummins returned for the 19th over and removed Bhuvneshwar on the first ball. Krunal got out hit wicket later in the over. RCB were 187/9. Harshal bowled the final over. He dismissed Yash Dayal and sealed the match. RCB were bowled out for 189. Sunrisers Hyderabad won by 42 runs after a powerful batting display and disciplined bowling.

Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head gave SRH a blazing start, although both failed to capitalize on it. Ishan Kishan played a superb, aggressive knock. He missed his century by just 6 runs but helped SRH post a huge total on the board. Aniket Verma also played a quickfire 26 off just 9 balls.

Virat Kohli and Phil Salt gave RCB a fiery start. Virat missed his half-century by 7 runs but played a solid knock. Phil Salt also scored a blazing half-century. However, RCB crumbled after the 15th over, losing their last seven wickets for just 22 runs. This collapse highlights a major concern for RCB.
