A car drove into a crowd of Liverpool fans who were celebrating their Premier League victory on Monday. As a result, 47 people were injured. However, police confirmed it was not a terrorist attack.
Police Arrest Suspect and Clarify Situation
During a press conference, Merseyside Police Assistant Chief Constable Jenny Sims said, “We believe this to be an isolated incident, and we are not currently looking for anyone else in relation to it.” She added that authorities arrested a 53-year-old white British man.
Furthermore, Sims stated, “The incident is not being treated as terrorism.”
Details of the Incident
The man drove a dark-colored minivan into the crowd just minutes after Liverpool’s players passed by on an open-top bus. Consequently, the vehicle sped through the large group, hitting several people.
Injuries and Emergency Response
At least 47 fans were taken to hospitals. Among them, two suffered serious injuries. Emergency teams, including an air ambulance, responded quickly. So far, officials have not confirmed the full number of injured.
