Details of the Attack
The intruder, identified as Shariful Islam Shehzad Mohammad Rohilla Amin Fakir (alias Vijay Das), confessed to the police. Fakir, a 30-year-old Bangladeshi national, said he stabbed Saif after the actor grabbed him tightly during their confrontation. Fakir had broken into the actor's flat with the intention of theft. According to police, “The accused entered the actor's flat in the Satguru Sharan building from the bathroom window with the intention of theft. After he entered, the actor’s staff spotted him and started arguing with him. Saif came to the scene and sensed a threat, so he held the accused tightly from the front.”
The Stabbing and Escape
In an attempt to free himself, Fakir stabbed Saif in the back. The police explained, “As the accused did not get time to move, he started stabbing the actor in his back to free himself from the latter’s grip. As Khan was injured, the accused managed to break free.” After the attack, Fakir escaped the flat and hid in the building’s garden for about two hours.
Surgery and Recovery
The attack occurred on January 16, early in the morning, and left Saif with serious injuries. He underwent emergency surgery to treat his wounds. Fakir was arrested by the police after a manhunt. He admitted to stabbing Saif to escape the actor’s hold. On Sunday, the court remanded Fakir in five-day police custody.
