Saudi Arabia Monitors Fallout Risk After US-Iran Clash
Saudi Arabia’s nuclear authority has confirmed there are no radiation leaks in the Kingdom following the recent US airstrikes on Iranian nuclear sites.
Saudi Arabia’s Nuclear and Radiological Regulatory Commission (NRRC) has assured that radiation levels across the Kingdom are within safe limits. The statement comes after rising military tensions in the region, especially following recent US airstrikes on Iranian nuclear sites. The NRRC said in an official post on X (formerly Twitter) that there is no radioactive leak detected anywhere in the country. The commission emphasized that it is monitoring the situation continuously and there is no harm to the environment or public health. Iran Also Reports No Radiation Risk Earlier, Iranian officials confirmed that no radiation was released from their Isfahan, Fordow, and Natanz nuclear sites after the US strikes. Iranian state media quoted the country’s National Nuclear Safety System Centre, which said their detectors had picked up no sign of radioactive contamination. Arak Reactor Poses No Threat On Friday, the NRRC addressed concerns about a military strike on Iran’s Arak research reactor. It clarified that this site does not contain any nuclear fuel, so it poses no risk of radiation leak. The NRRC confirmed that the incident has no impact on Saudi Arabia’s environment or public safety. Emergency Team on Alert The commission said its emergency operations center is fully active 24/7. They are ready to respond to any nuclear fallout if necessary. All preventive measures and safety protocols are in place to protect the country’s population and ecosystem. Desalinated Water Remains Safe The NRRC also ensured the public that Saudi Arabia’s desalination plants can effectively remove salt and radioactive particles from seawater. It said water safety is being closely monitored, and all current data confirms that drinking water remains safe. No Need for Emergency Response Plan The commission added that its radiological forecasting tools also cover nearby Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries. Based on the latest assessments, there is no need to activate Saudi Arabia’s national nuclear emergency plan at this time. Continued Transparency and Public Safety The NRRC promised to keep the public informed with regular updates. It reiterated its commitment to protecting Saudi Arabia’s people and environment from any nuclear threats.
