Pamela Anderson, best known for her iconic role in Baywatch, recently shared that she never enjoyed being seen as a "sex symbol." Now 58, the actress is embracing a more natural, makeup-free lifestyle and challenging how society defines beauty.
She Didn't Like the Spotlight
Pamela gained fame in the 1990s playing C.J. Parker. However, during the How To Fail With Elizabeth Day podcast, she admitted, “I don’t like being a sex symbol.”
She explained that seeking attention from the world felt uncomfortable. “It brought a lot of attention I didn’t like,” she said. Although she stressed she wasn't complaining, she added, “It’s a slippery slope.”
She Now Chooses Simplicity
In recent years, Pamela started appearing on red carpets without makeup. This was a personal choice, and she wanted to be more authentic.
“It can be even scary at times,” she said. “But I felt it was important… to be more natural.” She added that women are complex. “We’re not just the wild animal between the sheets,” she noted.
The Public Reaction Surprised Her
Pamela believed people wouldn’t notice her bare-faced look. She wore high-end outfits and assumed makeup wouldn’t matter. “Nobody’s going to notice if I don’t wear any make-up,” she told The Sunday Times.
However, fans quickly responded with admiration. Pamela said she didn’t expect people to relate so strongly. “I didn’t realise it was going to start all of this,” she admitted.
Her Sons Feel Proud
This shift in public image has also helped Pamela’s two sons—Brandon (29) and Dylan (27)—whom she shares with ex-husband Tommy Lee.
She shared, “[My sons] probably don’t feel they have to defend their mom any more.”
Pamela now lives with more freedom, less pressure, and a clearer voice. She hopes her journey encourages others to feel comfortable in their skin.
