Defending champion
Jannik Sinner quickly silenced doubts about his health, defeating Alex de Minaur 6-3, 6-2, 6-1 to reach the
Australian Open 2025 semi-finals. Although Sinner had struggled with illness in his previous match, he was in top form against De Minaur. "I feel like the illness has gone away now. I was feeling much, much better this morning," he said. He also confirmed that his blood tests were "all good," dismissing rumors of pneumonia. "When you are young, you recover very fast – so it's a bit different."
Confident and Ready for the Match
Ahead of the match, Sinner maintained a relaxed approach. He shared that he had a “very easy day” on Tuesday, practicing only for "half an hour or 40 minutes" to keep his rhythm. "I felt ready for today," he added, noting the importance of sleep and healthy eating to prepare properly.
Dominant Performance
Sinner was in complete control throughout the match. He broke De Minaur’s serve six times and saved De Minaur’s only break point in the second set. This performance demonstrated his dominance on the court, proving once again why he is the world number one.
De Minaur Struggles
Despite the Australian crowd’s high hopes, De Minaur couldn’t overcome his losing streak against Sinner. He admitted, "Right now my worst match-up on tour is Jannik. The head to head doesn't lie." In the cooler conditions, he found it challenging to handle Sinner’s consistent play.
Looking forward, Sinner will face American Ben Shelton in the semi-finals. Shelton reached his first Melbourne semi-final after defeating Lorenzo Sonego in four sets.
