Novak Djokovic pulled off a remarkable comeback to defeat Carlos Alcaraz 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, 6-4 in a thrilling
Australian Open 2025 quarterfinal. The match lasted 3 hours and 38 minutes. Despite being 37, Djokovic defied both injury and age. After limping off due to a leg issue in the first set, he returned to the court after treatment. Subsequently, he played aggressively and regained his physical form, allowing him to take control of the match.
“It was possibly one of the best matches of the tournament on the men's side," Djokovic said. "It felt like a final of a Slam, and I wish it was. We both gave it our all.”
This victory brings Djokovic one step closer to his 11th men’s singles title and a 25th Grand Slam win, which would set an all-time record.
Alcaraz Struggles, Djokovic Takes Control
Although Alcaraz, the third seed, started strong, he soon struggled as Djokovic’s tactics, particularly targeting his backhand, started to work. Alcaraz's intense game could not match Djokovic’s aggressive approach, and he lost control.
“I felt like I was controlling the match and I let him get into it again,” Alcaraz admitted. “That was the biggest mistake I made. In the second set, I had to play a little bit better just to push him even more to the limit.”
Djokovic's Physical Concerns Ahead of Semis
Looking ahead to his semifinal, Djokovic expressed concerns over his physical condition. However, he remains confident. “I’m concerned physically, but if I can somehow manage to be physically ready, I’m mentally and emotionally as ready as I can be,” he said.
Djokovic will now face Alexander Zverev in the semifinals on Friday. This win not only demonstrates his resilience but also keeps his quest for another Australian Open title alive.
