First Quarter: A Tight Start
The first quarter was evenly contested, with neither team creating clear goal-scoring chances. Both sides made several circle entries, but they struggled to find the finishing touch. As a result, the quarter ended 0-0.
Team Gonasika’s Penalty Corner Opportunity
In the 18th minute, Team Gonasika earned the first penalty corner of the match after Araijeet Hundal was fouled. However, James Mazarelo made a fantastic save, denying Victor Charlet’s drag-flick. This kept the score tied.
The Rudras grew into the game in the second quarter. They earned four penalty corners, but Oliver Payne, the Gonasika goalkeeper, was in top form, making several crucial saves. Consequently, the score remained 0-0 at halftime.
Gonasika Misses a Key Chance
In the 33rd minute, Charlet played a brilliant pass to Amir Ali, who won a penalty corner after being tripped. However, Charlet mis-hit the drag-flick, and Gonasika couldn’t capitalize on the opportunity.
UP Rudras Break the Deadlock
In the 37th minute, the Rudras finally broke the deadlock. They scored from a well-executed penalty corner variation. Russell passed to Cosyns, who took his time before unleashing a powerful shot into the net, giving the Rudras a 1-0 lead. Although Gonasika nearly equalized, Floris Wortelboer made an exceptional goal-line save.
Russell Doubles the Lead
Just a few minutes later, in the 40th minute, Russell’s fiery drag-flick deflected off Gonasika goalkeeper Suraj Karkera’s glove and found the back of the net, putting the Rudras 2-0 up. With this second goal, the Rudras took full control of the match.
Near Miss for a Third Goal
The Rudras came close to scoring a third in the 57th minute when James Albery found himself in a one-on-one situation with Karkera. However, Karkera did well to close down the angle and deny Albery’s shot.
