The 76th Republic Day celebrations kicked off on January 26, 2025.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi began the day by paying tribute to martyrs at the National War Memorial. He observed a two-minute silence in their honor. Following this, the grand parade took place at Kartavya Path in Delhi, with President Murmu leading the nation in marking the occasion.
PM Modi's Traditional Look in 2025
For the 2025 Republic Day, PM Modi sported a saffron and red safa, which became the highlight of his outfit. He paired it with a brown bandhgala coat and a cream churidar kurta. This combination was both traditional and elegant, making his appearance even more iconic.
PM Modi’s Turban Trends Over the Years
In 2024, PM Modi's turban stole the show once again. He wore a vibrant Bandhani print turban in saffron, pink, white, and yellow. This striking headgear was paired with a white cotton kurta-pyjama set and a brown sadri, making a bold fashion statement.
In 2023, Modi chose a colorful pheta turban adorned with orange, red, green, yellow, and white patterns. He paired the turban with a cream churidar kurta, a black bandhgala coat, and a silk scarf. This look, too, highlighted his love for traditional, colorful headgear.
Distinctive Headgear on Previous Republic Days
In 2021, Modi wore a red ‘Halari Pagdi’ with yellow dots, gifted by the royal family of Jamnagar. He matched it with a grey jacket, white kurta-pyjama, and an embroidered shawl. This bright and bold headgear added an interesting cultural touch to the Republic Day celebrations.
For India’s 73rd Republic Day, PM Modi wore a traditional kurta-pyjama with a grey check-embroidered jacket. He accessorized with a unique Uttarakhand cap, a scarf, and a Brahma Kamal-inspired brooch, which represented the state flower of Uttarakhand.
A Tradition of Colorful Turbans
Looking back to 2020, Modi chose a saffron bandhej turban with a tail. The turban, which was created using the tie-dye technique, paired beautifully with his kurta, pyjama, and jacket. In 2019, Modi’s headgear featured a yellowish-orange color with a red tail. He complemented it with a brown jacket, cream kurta, and churidar pants, continuing his tradition of wearing a stylish and culturally significant turban.
