NorthEast United FC and Odisha FC played out a 2-2 draw at Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar on Monday in the
Indian Super League 2024-25 season.
Ajaraie Shines with a Brace
Alaaeddine Ajaraie scored a brace for
NorthEast United FC, but it wasn’t enough for the win. Despite his efforts, Odisha FC fought back with goals from Thoiba Singh and Isak Vanlalruatfela to earn a point. Ajaraie’s two goals brought his season total to 18, tying the ISL record for most goals in a season held by Ferran Corominas (2017-18) and Bartholomew Ogbeche (2021-22).
Missed Opportunities Early On
The match began slowly but picked up pace after 25 minutes. Odisha FC had a clear chance to take the lead when Diego Mauricio set up Jerry Mawihmingthanga in front of goal. However, Mawihmingthanga missed the open shot.
Pressure Builds
A minute later, Rahul KP forced a save from NorthEast’s Gurmeet Singh with a strong run. Odisha FC began to create more chances, but both teams struggled to finish.
Solid Defenses
After the drinks break, NorthEast United created a great chance when Macarton Nickson passed to Jithin MS. Jithin squared it for Nestor Albiach, but Mourtada Fall made a key tackle to stop the shot.
Ajaraie Puts NorthEast Ahead
In the 67th minute, NorthEast United FC took the lead. Redeem Tlang played a short corner to Buanthanglun Samte, who crossed to Ajaraie at the far post. Ajaraie finished confidently, scoring his 17th goal of the season.
Odisha FC equalized in the 78th minute. Isak Vanlalruatfela crossed for Thoiba Singh, who beat Gurmeet Singh to level the score.
Late Drama
In the 83rd minute, Ajaraie put NorthEast back in front. He scored with a header from a free-kick by Nestor Albiach. But in the 90+3’ minute, Isak Vanlalruatfela and Diego Mauricio combined to give Odisha FC their second goal and a share of the points.

Ajaraie stood out with his two goals. He also created three chances and made two defensive clearances.
Odisha FC will play FC Goa away on February 6. NorthEast United FC will host Mumbai City FC in Shillong on February 7.
