NorthEast United FC Keeps Playoff Hopes Alive with 2-0 Win Over Jamshedpur FC
Alaaeddine Ajaraie made history with a brace, leading NorthEast United FC to a 2-0 win over Jamshedpur FC, securing their first-ever road victory against them in Indian Super League.

NorthEast United FC triumphed 2-0 over Jamshedpur FC on Thursday in the Indian Super League 2024-25 season. Alaaeddine Ajaraie scored a brace, bringing his total to 20 goals for the season. Consequently, he broke the record for the most goals in a single ISL campaign, surpassing Ferran Corominas and Bartholomew Ogbeche’s previous record of 18 goals.

First Road Win Against Jamshedpur FC

Moreover, this victory marked NorthEast United FC’s first-ever win at Jamshedpur FC’s home ground in six attempts. As a result, they moved up to 4th place in the standings with 32 points from 21 matches, keeping their playoff hopes alive.

Ajaraie’s Early Goal

The match started with pace for NorthEast. In the 6th minute, Ajaraie scored his 19th goal of the season. Redeem Tlang made a precise pass to Thoi Singh, who crossed it into the box. Ajaraie calmly finished, giving his team the early advantage.

Jamshedpur FC’s Response

Despite the early setback, Jamshedpur FC fought back. They pushed forward and had more possession, but NorthEast United’s defense held firm. While they struggled to break through, Parthib forced a save from Jamshedpur’s goalkeeper, Albino Gomes, showcasing NorthEast’s continued pressure.

Near Miss for Jamshedpur

Just before halftime, Jamshedpur came very close to equalizing. A long throw from Muhammad Uvais was mishandled by NorthEast’s goalkeeper, Gurmeet Singh. Mohammed Sanan attempted a shot, but Michel Zabaco reacted quickly, clearing the ball off the line to keep the lead intact.

Second Half Pressure

Jamshedpur came out with more energy in the second half, hoping to get back into the game. However, despite their efforts, NorthEast United FC’s defense continued to thwart their attacks. In response, coach Juan Pedro Benali made a tactical substitution, bringing on Phalguni Singh for Parthib in the 59th minute. This allowed Ajaraie to move centrally, while Phalguni took over on the left wing.

Ajaraie’s Near Miss

In the 65th minute, NorthEast nearly extended their lead. Nestor sent in a brilliant free-kick to Ajaraie, who managed to get a header on target. However, his effort narrowly missed the goal.

Penalty Seals the Win

Things became more difficult for Jamshedpur in the 79th minute. Nikhil Barla fouled Thoi in the penalty box, giving NorthEast United FC a spot-kick. Although Gomes saved Ajaraie’s first attempt, the Moroccan followed up quickly to score from the rebound in the 81st minute, doubling their advantage.

Jamshedpur’s Late Push

In an attempt to change the game, Jamshedpur’s coach, Khalid Jamil, made substitutions, introducing Stephen Eze and Ritwik Das. However, despite their late efforts, NorthEast United FC’s defense stood firm, securing the 2-0 victory and their 6th clean sheet of the season.

Key Player of the Match

Alaaeddine Ajaraie was undoubtedly the standout performer. He scored both goals and created four chances. Additionally, he contributed defensively with two clearances and an interception. He completed 16 out of 28 passes.
