Mohun Bagan Super Giant defeated Kerala Blasters FC 3-0 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Kochi in the Indian Super League 2024-25 on Saturday. Despite having just 33.4% possession, the Mariners were highly efficient in attack, converting three out of four shots on target into goals. As a result, they remain at the top of the league with 49 points from 21 games, 10 points ahead of second-placed FC Goa.
Maclaren Breaks the Deadlock
In the 28th minute, Jamie Maclaren opened the scoring with a close-range finish. Liston Colaco provided the perfect pass from the left side of the six-yard box. Maclaren made no mistake, firing the ball into the top center of the net. This goal set the tone for the rest of the match.
Maclaren Doubles the Lead
Twelve minutes later, Maclaren was on target again. This time, Jason Cummings turned provider. Instead of going for the goal himself, Cummings passed the ball to Maclaren, who calmly placed it into the center of the goal with his left foot from outside the box. Thanks to this assist, Cummings became the third player to assist in three consecutive games for Mohun Bagan, following Dimitrios Petratos and Roy Krishna.
Rodriguez Seals the Victory
In the 65th minute, Manvir Singh earned a free-kick on the right flank. Following this, Cummings attempted a left-footed shot, but it was blocked. Both Deepak Tangri and Alberto Rodriguez had efforts on goal, and finally, Rodriguez slotted the ball into the net from the left side, securing the third goal. This goal sealed the win for Mohun Bagan.
Pressure Continues
Even after their third goal, Mohun Bagan didn't reduce their attacking pressure. Dimitrios Petratos crossed the ball to Tom Aldred, but his header missed the target. Soon after, Ashique Kuruniyan passed to Petratos, who went for a shot but missed. However, the Mariners’ relentless attacking play kept Kerala Blasters under pressure, strengthening their push for the title.
Key Performer of the Match
Jamie Maclaren completed 11 out of 12 passes, scored twice, and provided one assist to lead his team to a dominant victory.
