TATA WPL 2025: DC Edge Out UP Warriorz in a Last-Ball Thriller
Delhi Capitals sealed a dramatic seven-wicket win over UP Warriorz, with Meg Lanning's 69 and Annabel Sutherland's all-round performance guiding them to a thrilling victory.

Delhi Capitals (DC) moved into the Top-2 of the TATA Women’s Premier League 2025 with a dramatic seven-wicket victory over UP Warriorz (UPW). The match ended in a nail-biting finish in Vadodara, and as a result, UPW remains at the bottom of the table without a win.

Lanning Shines with a Match-Winning Knock

After two previous losses, Meg Lanning led DC’s chase with a brilliant 69 off 49 balls. Her knock set up the chase perfectly. Following her, Annabel Sutherland (41* off 35) and Marizanne Kapp (29* off 17) ensured DC crossed the finish line with one ball to spare. Despite Kiran Navgire’s explosive 51 off 27 balls for UPW, it wasn’t enough to secure the win.

UPW Gets Off to a Strong Start

DC won the toss and opted to bowl first. Initially, UPW had a strong start, with Navgire attacking DC’s bowlers, including Shikha Pandey and Marizanne Kapp. As a result, the opening partnership between Navgire and Vrinda Dinesh surged to 58 runs in just five overs. Notably, Navgire reached her half-century in only 24 balls, hitting six fours and three sixes.

However, DC’s bowlers quickly fought back. Annabel Sutherland dismissed both openers—Navgire (51) and Dinesh (16). In addition, Jonassen got Tahlia McGrath out, and soon, DC had tightened their control. By the 10-over mark, UPW was 83/4.

DC’s Spinners Take Control

Following this, Sarah Bryce’s lightning-fast stumping helped dismiss McGrath. Meanwhile, off-spinner Minnu Mani played her part by dismissing UPW captain Deepti Sharma. Despite a brief recovery from Grace Harris and Shweta Sehrawat, adding 36 runs to the total, DC still maintained control of the innings. Consequently, UPW ended up with 166/7 after 20 overs. Sutherland’s 2-26 was crucial in DC’s successful bowling comeback.

Lanning and Verma Set the Stage

In response, DC’s chase started off strong. Lanning (33* off 22) and Shafali Verma (25* off 14) guided DC to 59/0 in the powerplay. However, Verma was dropped early but was eventually dismissed in Deepti Sharma’s first over. Following that, UPW took another crucial wicket when they dismissed Jemimah Rodrigues, leaving DC at 70/2.

Lanning Leads the Charge

Despite the setbacks, Lanning continued to lead the charge. She reached her half-century off 34 balls, and together with Sutherland, they added 46 more runs, bringing DC to 116/2 after 14 overs. However, UPW fought back once again when Lanning was dismissed by Harris, making the game more interesting.

DC Finishes the Job

With just 11 runs needed in the final over, Sutherland stepped up and hit two boundaries off McGrath. Consequently, DC needed only one run from two balls. Although UPW missed a simple run-out chance, Kapp managed to make her ground, securing a thrilling victory for DC.
