Mohammedan SC and Odisha FC played a 0-0 draw, denting Odisha's playoff chances in the ISL 2024-25 season.
Mohammedan SC and Odisha FC played a goalless draw in the Indian Super League 2024-25 at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar on Friday. As a result, Odisha FC’s playoff chances took a hit. They now sit in seventh place with 30 points from 23 matches. Meanwhile, Mumbai City FC, in sixth place, has 32 points from 21 games.

Defensive Battle and Goalkeeper Milestone

Notably, both teams failed to score against each other for the second time this season. Their previous match also ended 0-0. Furthermore, Odisha FC’s goalkeeper, Amrinder Singh, recorded his 50th clean sheet in ISL history. He became the third goalkeeper to reach this milestone after Vishal Kaith and Gurpreet Singh Sandhu.

Odisha FC’s Early Chance

Early in the match, Odisha FC created the first major chance. Isak Vanlalruatfela sent a long ball to Rahim Ali on the right flank. Rahim controlled it but had no space to shoot. Consequently, he passed to Diego Mauricio, who was in a better position. However, the Brazilian striker mishit his shot, sending it over the goal.

Mohammedan SC’s Response

On the other hand, Mohammedan SC almost took the lead. Lalremsanga Fanai sprinted down the left wing and crossed the ball toward Manvir Singh Saini. Nevertheless, Thoiba Moirangthem Singh reacted quickly and cleared the danger. The visitors relied on counter-attacks. In the 20th minute, Lalremsanga made a smart run and reached the penalty area. However, Carlos Delgado recovered in time and blocked his shot.

Mohammedan SC’s Aggressive Start

After halftime, Mohammedan SC started the second half aggressively. Manvir Singh took an early shot, but Amrinder Singh made a crucial save. Meanwhile, Isak continued attacking from the left side, keeping defenders on alert. Despite his efforts, Odisha FC’s defense stood strong.

Franca’s Missed Opportunities

For a while, Brazilian forward Franca looked dangerous. He dribbled past defenders with ease but struggled to finish. In the 68th minute, Amey Ranawade made a mistake, and Franca found himself one-on-one with the goalkeeper. Unfortunately, he failed to score from five yards out.

Late Drama

Later, Isak had another chance in the 88th minute. Saviour Gama sent a cross into the box, but Isak’s shot flew just over the bar. In the final minutes, Mohammedan SC controlled possession but failed to convert chances. Consequently, the match ended in a draw.

Key Performer of the Match

The French defender Florent Ogier (Mohammedan SC) dominated at the back. He made four tackles, four clearances, and one interception. Additionally, he completed 49 of his 57 passes.
