Delhi Capitals dominated Mumbai Indians with a 9-wicket win in Match 13 of the TATA Women’s Premier League 2025. As a result, they moved to the top of the points table. DC’s spinners dismantled Mumbai’s batting lineup, and then openers Meg Lanning and Shafali Verma secured an easy chase.
Spinners Take Control
Right from the start, DC’s bowlers applied pressure and never let MI settle. Minnu Mani (3/17) and Jess Jonassen (3/25) tore through Mumbai’s middle order. Consequently, MI could only manage 123/9. Jonassen’s outstanding spell earned her the Player of the Match award for the second consecutive game. Her performance once again proved why she is among the world’s best all-rounders.
Dominant Chase
Without wasting any time, Delhi Capitals chased 124 with ease. Meg Lanning (60* off 49) and Shafali Verma (43 off 28) started aggressively. In particular, Shafali hammered 16 runs in the fourth over alone. The duo quickly raced to 56/0 by the end of the powerplay.
In an attempt to break the stand, Harmanpreet Kaur introduced Amelia Kerr into the attack. However, Shafali struck two massive sixes, further strengthening DC’s position. By the ninth over, DC had reached 82/0. Eventually, Amanjot Kaur dismissed Shafali with a brilliant boundary catch by Kerr.
Even after the wicket, Lanning remained calm and led from the front. She reached her second fifty of the season and, in the process, became the all-time leading run-scorer in WPL history, surpassing Ellyse Perry. With help from Jemimah Rodrigues (15* off 10), she guided Delhi to their fourth win in six matches.
Mumbai’s Batting Struggles
Earlier in the match, Meg Lanning won the toss and opted to field first. At the beginning, MI openers Yastika Bhatia and Hayley Matthews looked confident. Yastika clipped the first ball for four off Marizanne Kapp, while Matthews found early boundaries. However, Shikha Pandey soon dismissed Yastika, and MI ended the powerplay at 35/1.
Shortly afterward, Annabel Sutherland removed Matthews, caught by Shafali Verma. With two quick wickets, DC tightened their grip. Although Harmanpreet Kaur and Nat Sciver-Brunt tried to rebuild, Jonassen struck again. She first dismissed Harmanpreet with a smart arm ball and then removed Sciver-Brunt with a sharp caught-and-bowled.
To make matters worse for MI, Minnu Mani dismissed S. Sajana and Amelia Kerr in quick succession. Additionally, Annabel Sutherland took a stunning diving catch to remove Kerr, which was one of the best catches of the tournament. Finally, Jonassen wrapped up Mumbai’s collapse by taking G. Kamalini’s wicket.
Delhi’s Clinical Finish
Throughout the match, DC’s disciplined bowling and sharp fielding kept MI under pressure. As a result, MI could only post 123/9, which was far from competitive. Without delay, Delhi’s in-form batters chased it down with ease. This dominant win earned DC two crucial points and cemented their position as WPL 2025’s top team.
