Kerala Blasters FC secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Mumbai City FC during the Indian Super League 2024-25 season. The match was held at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Kochi on Friday night.

Meanwhile, Mumbai City FC, also known as the Islanders, had 33 points, tied with Odisha FC. They needed just one more point to secure a playoff spot. However, now they must win against Bengaluru FC on March 11 to qualify. The first half was a tight contest. Both teams battled in midfield, struggling to create chances. However, in the second half, Kwame Peprah scored from a difficult angle, securing three points for Kerala Blasters. Notably, this win was their first home victory since January 13, when they defeated Odisha FC 3-2.

The game started openly, with both teams trying to take control. In the 10th minute, Lallianzuala Chhangte took a long-range shot that struck the post. This near-miss was an early warning for Kerala Blasters. Soon after, the hosts responded well. Korou Singh delivered a precise cross into the box for Ishan Pandita. Kwame Peprah struck from a tight angle, beating Thaer Krouma and Lachenpa to give the home side the lead. Meanwhile, Mumbai City FC had a chance to equalize in the 60th minute. Brandon Fernandes sent a precise free-kick to Vikram Partap Singh. However, the Kerala Blasters' defense blocked his header. Moments later, Peprah found another scoring opportunity but missed the target. Then, in the 74th minute, Mumbai City FC nearly scored. Brandon Fernandes found Chhangte in space, but his shot narrowly missed the goal. In the 77th minute, Kerala Blasters had a chance to extend their lead. Mohammed Aimen dribbled past his marker and entered the box. He forced Lachenpa into a save, but Krouma cleared the rebound.

In stoppage time, Mumbai City FC had their best chance. Vikram Partap Singh aimed a shot at goal, but substitute Bikash Yumnam made a goal-line clearance. Consequently, Kerala Blasters held on to win. Meanwhile, Mumbai City FC suffered their sixth defeat of the season.
