Omar Abdullah Denies Government’s Role in Gulmarg Fashion Show
J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah clarified that the Gulmarg fashion show was a private event with no government involvement. He criticized the organizers, ordered an inquiry, and assured action if necessary

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah firmly denied any government involvement in the controversial fashion show held in Gulmarg. Addressing the Assembly on Monday, he made it clear that the event was a private gathering, and the administration had not approved it.

Abdullah strongly criticized the organizers, stating that they "did not apply their brains" before planning the event. He further condemned the timing, saying, “Some people argue that the event should not have taken place during Ramadhan, but I believe it should not have been held in any month.”

No Permission, Inquiry Ordered

The Chief Minister emphasized that authorities had not granted any formal permission for the show. Despite the government's non-involvement, he announced an official inquiry into the matter. If necessary, he assured that the case would be referred to the police for further investigation.

Many locals and religious groups had already voiced their concerns about the event, calling it inappropriate for the region. Their outrage fueled the controversy, putting pressure on the government to take action.

Assembly Turns Chaotic

Meanwhile, the Assembly witnessed dramatic scenes as tensions escalated over the issue. Three legislators, including AIP’s Sheikh Khurheed Ahmad, attempted to storm the well of the House in protest. Security personnel had to step in, and marshals escorted them out, leading to an uproar among members.

Support for Kathua Victim’s Family

Shifting focus, Abdullah also addressed the tragic Kathua case. Expressing deep sympathy, he acknowledged the pain of the victim’s family and assured them of full government support. He stressed the need for justice and promised strict action against those responsible.

Public Reaction and Political Implications

The controversy surrounding the Gulmarg fashion show has sparked debates across the state. Many citizens have questioned how such an event was organized without official approval. On the other hand, opposition parties have criticized the government for not preventing it earlier.

As the inquiry progresses, the incident raises larger concerns about event regulations and administrative oversight in the region. Meanwhile, Abdullah’s firm stance on the issue aims to reassure the public that such incidents will not go unchecked in the future.
