After several attacks on Tesla, US President Donald Trump issued a strong warning on Friday. He stated that those responsible, including their financial backers, could face up to 20 years in prison.
“Anyone caught sabotaging Teslas could go to jail for up to 20 years, including the funders. WE ARE LOOKING FOR YOU,” Trump posted on Truth Social.
Attacks on Tesla Escalate
Recently, protests against Tesla have intensified across the U.S. Ever since Elon Musk took over as head of the Department of Government Efficiency in Washington, tensions have been rising. Protesters have vandalized Tesla vehicles and even thrown Molotov cocktails at dealerships.
Meanwhile, Musk’s department has laid off thousands of federal employees to cut government spending. As a result, multiple states and organizations have filed legal challenges.
Government Labels Tesla Attacks as ‘Domestic Terrorism’
On Thursday, U.S. Attorney General Pamela Bondi announced that three individuals had been charged with arson at Tesla dealerships and charging stations. She condemned these acts as ‘domestic terrorism.’
Consequently, the Justice Department confirmed that each suspect could face between five and 20 years in prison.
“Let this be a warning: if you join this wave of domestic terrorism against Tesla properties, the Department of Justice will put you behind bars,” Bondi said.
