Trump Administration Ends Legal Protections for 530,000 Migrants
Trump Ends Legal Protections for 530,000 Migrants, Deportations to Begin Soon.

The Trump administration will end legal protections for 530,000 migrants from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Venezuela. As a result, they will face deportation in just one month. This decision is part of US President Donald Trump’s strict immigration policies.

Homeland Security Announces Deportation Plan

On Friday, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) confirmed the policy change. Consequently, these migrants will lose their legal status on April 24. This will happen 30 days after the policy is published.

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem stated that the government will immediately enforce the new rule. Many affected migrants arrived after October 2022 under a humanitarian parole program. Initially, they were granted two-year work permits. However, under the new rule, they must leave the country or face deportation.

Trump Administration Restricts Humanitarian Parole

Previously, the humanitarian parole program allowed migrants escaping conflict and political instability to stay temporarily. Now, officials claim they are ending the program’s misuse.

US President Donald Trump has always supported tough immigration laws. He promised to deport millions and made legal migration more difficult. Before this policy, the administration had already blocked asylum, visa, and other applications. As a result, many migrants lost options to extend their stay.

Court Challenges and Biden’s Immigration Strategy

Meanwhile, immigration advocates have filed lawsuits against this decision. They argue that the administration is violating previous agreements and ignoring humanitarian concerns.

Under President Joe Biden, the US admitted up to 30,000 migrants per month from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Venezuela. In return, Mexico agreed to take the same number of deportees.

  • Cuba accepted one deportation flight per month.

  • Haiti, despite ongoing violence, received several deportation flights, especially after the Texas migrant crisis in 2021.

Biden Focused on Legal Immigration and Border Security

Since late 2022, over 500,000 migrants legally entered the US under Biden’s CHNV policy. His administration aimed to expand legal immigration while also strengthening border security.

Now, however, Trump’s new policy puts hundreds of thousands at risk of deportation. The removals are set to begin in weeks.
