Spin Threat Looms, but RCB Ready for KKR’s Challenge, Says Flower
RCB head coach Andy Flower remains confident ahead of IPL 2025, stating that KKR should feel the pressure in the tournament opener.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) head coach Andy Flower believes his team is well-prepared for IPL 2025. Therefore, he does not consider the opening match against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) a tough challenge. Instead, he thinks KKR should feel the pressure.

During a pre-match press conference, a journalist asked Flower if facing the defending champions would be "daunting" for RCB. However, he quickly turned the question around.

"Yes, it is very daunting. For KKR! I hope it is an El Clasico tomorrow night. That'll be a brilliant way to start IPL 2025," Flower said.

RCB vs. KKR: Head-to-Head Record

Historically, KKR has dominated past encounters. In fact, out of 34 matches, KKR has won 20. Additionally, in the last five games, KKR secured victory four times. Meanwhile, RCB last defeated KKR in IPL 2022.

Both teams have new captains for IPL 2025. Ajinkya Rahane will lead KKR, whereas Rajat Patidar will take charge of RCB.

Rajat Patidar Ready to Lead RCB

Andy Flower expressed confidence in Rajat Patidar’s leadership. As a result, he said the entire team and management fully support him.

"We built an experienced squad to support Rajat. He is really excited about this challenge, and we’re right behind him," Flower stated.

RCB Aware of KKR’s Spin Attack

On the other hand, KKR’s spin bowlers remain a major threat. Consequently, Flower acknowledged the challenge posed by Sunil Narine and Varun Chakravarthy.

"Chakravarthy is in really good form, and we know Narine’s skills. But this is why you play at this level—to test yourself against the best," he said.

Furthermore, he emphasized the excitement of competing in the IPL, which he compared to international cricket.

Powerful Batters Changing the IPL

In addition to discussing KKR’s bowling, Flower highlighted how batters are getting stronger and scoring more runs.

"Batters are becoming bigger and stronger. But there’s still room for smart players like Virat Kohli. He’s super fit and highly intelligent," he added.

Overall, RCB enters IPL 2025 with a new captain and an experienced squad. Despite KKR’s strong record, Andy Flower remains optimistic. Therefore, fans can expect an exciting IPL opener.
