Russia launched a fresh wave of attacks on Ukraine, killing one person and injuring more than 100, including children. The strikes caused widespread damage to buildings and infrastructure.
Heavy Drone and Missile Strikes
On Tuesday, Ukraine’s Air Force reported that Russian forces launched 139 drones and decoys, including an Iskander-M ballistic missile. Consequently, Ukrainian forces shot down 78 drones. Meanwhile, 34 decoys disappeared from radar but fortunately caused no damage.
Earlier in the day, Russia fired multiple missiles at Sumy, a northeastern city. Notably, the attack occurred just hours after Moscow and Washington began ceasefire talks in Saudi Arabia.
Civilian Casualties and Damage
As a result of the attacks, 110 people, including 23 children, suffered injuries. Most victims received treatment in hospitals. Furthermore, the strikes damaged 26 buildings, including schools, a kindergarten, a hospital, and 16 residential buildings.
Additionally, Russian strikes harmed civilians in different regions. In Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, a 36-year-old man was injured in Synelnykove district. Likewise, in Nikopol district, a 40-year-old man was wounded, Governor Serhii Lysak confirmed.
Moreover, in Donetsk Oblast, an attack on Lyman left one civilian injured, according to Governor Vadym Filashkin. Meanwhile, in Kherson Oblast, one person died, and six others suffered injuries. The attack also damaged four houses, Governor Oleksandr Prokudin stated.
In addition, in Poltava Oblast, drone debris started a fire at an enterprise in Myrhorod district. As a result, two employees were injured, and one was hospitalized, Governor Volodymyr Kohut reported.
Russia and US Continue Talks
On Tuesday, a Russian negotiator said Moscow will continue “useful” talks with the US about the Ukraine conflict. Furthermore, they plan to involve the UN and other countries.
“We talked about everything, it was an intense dialogue, not easy, but very useful for us and the Americans,” Grigory Karasin told TASS, Russia’s state news agency. He also added, “lots of problems were discussed.”
Although both sides remain far from an agreement, he stressed the importance of these discussions.
“We will continue doing it, adding in the international community, above all the United Nations and certain countries,” Karasin said.
