Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) crushed Rajasthan Royals (RR) by eight wickets, chasing down 151 with ease. They sealed the win with 15 balls to spare. Quinton de Kock led the charge with a match-winning knock. KKR’s clinical performance secured an easy victory and valuable points in IPL 2025.
Match No. 6 of IPL 2025 between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) took place at Baraspara Stadium in Guwahati. KKR won the toss and elected to bowl first.
RR Struggle to Build a Strong Total
Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sanju Samson opened the innings for RR. Spence Johnson started with the new ball. Jaiswal smashed a boundary on the first delivery, while Samson found the fence on the last ball of the over. RR reached 9/0 after the first over.
Vaibhav Arora bowled from the other end and kept things tight. Jaiswal freed his hands and struck a six in Johnson’s second over. However, Arora provided the breakthrough by bowling Samson out for 13 off 11 balls. Riyan Parag arrived at No. 3. After four overs, RR stood at 34/1.
Harshit Rana bowled the fifth over. Parag hammered the second ball for a six. Rana dropped Jaiswal on the last delivery, giving RR a lifeline. After six overs, RR reached 54/1, with Jaiswal batting on 25 off 17 balls and Parag on 15 off 8 balls.
Moeen Ali and Varun Chakaravarthy Tighten the Grip
Varun Chakaravarthy came in to bowl the eighth over. Parag launched his second ball for a six but lost his wicket on the fourth. He scored 25 off 15 balls, hitting three sixes. Nitish Rana joined at No. 4. After eight overs, RR stood at 67/2.
Moeen Ali bowled the ninth over. Jaiswal attempted to clear the boundary but gave an easy catch to Harshit Rana. He departed for 29 off 24 balls. Wanindu Hasaranga came in next. After nine overs, RR slipped to 71/3.
Chakaravarthy struck again in the 10th over. Hasaranga mistimed a shot and offered a simple catch to Rahane. Dhruv Jurel arrived at No. 6. After 10 overs, RR were struggling at 76/4.
Moeen Ali struck on the final ball of the 11th over, bowling out Nitish Rana for just eight runs. RR’s score dropped to 82/5. Chakaravarthy and Moeen tightened their grip on the game. Ali finished his four-over spell, conceding only 23 runs and grabbing two wickets.
RR reached 92/5 after 13 overs. Jurel decided to counterattack. He smashed two consecutive boundaries off Harshit Rana, bringing up RR’s 100 in 13.2 overs. After 14 overs, RR stood at 103/5.
Rajasthan Fail to Finish Strong
Vaibhav Arora dismissed Shivam Dubey on the last ball of the 15th over. RR slumped to 110/6. Shimron Hetmyer came in at No. 8, but RR’s scoring rate slowed. They managed only two runs in the 16th over.
Jurel tried to accelerate but lost his wicket on the first ball of the 19th over. He scored 33 off 28 balls, hitting five fours. Jofra Archer, the next batter, smashed Harshit Rana for a six but saw Hetmyer depart for just seven runs. After 19 overs, RR stood at 138/8.
Maheesh Theekshana joined Archer for the final over. Archer smashed the first ball for a six, but Johnson dismissed him on the fifth delivery. RR finished at 151/9. KKR’s bowlers executed their plans perfectly.
KKR Chase the Target Comfortably
Moeen Ali and Quinton de Kock opened for KKR. Jofra Archer bowled a tight first over, conceding only two extras. De Kock quickly found his rhythm, hitting boundaries off Theekshana and Archer. He finished the third over with a six. After three overs, KKR stood at 20/0.
De Kock continued his aggressive approach, launching another six off Theekshana. KKR reached 29/0 after four overs. He kept finding boundaries regularly. Sandeep Sharma bowled the sixth over. After six overs, KKR were at 40/1, with de Kock on 34 off 25 balls and Moeen Ali struggling at 4 off 11 balls.
On the first ball of the seventh over, Moeen Ali got run out, reducing KKR to 40/1. Ajinkya Rahane joined de Kock at No. 3. The pair focused on building a partnership while maintaining a steady run rate. After nine overs, KKR reached 61/1.
Drama unfolded in the 10th over. Theekshana appealed for LBW against Rahane, but the umpire denied it. Rahane responded by smashing the third ball for six. On the last ball, Theekshana appealed for LBW against de Kock. The umpire raised his finger, but de Kock reviewed the decision. The DRS confirmed he was not out. After 10 overs, KKR stood at 70/1, with de Kock batting on 45 off 34 balls and Rahane on 18 off 14.
Quinton de Kock Seals the Win in Style
Hasaranga dismissed Rahane on the first ball of the 11th over. Angkrish Raghuvanshi joined at No. 4. De Kock completed his half-century with a six on the last ball of the over. After 11 overs, KKR reached 80/2, with de Kock on 53* off 37 balls and Raghuvanshi on 2* off 2 balls.
De Kock kept clearing the boundary with ease. Raghuvanshi joined the party, hitting a four on the first ball of the 13th over. KKR brought up 100 in 12.4 overs. After 13 overs, they stood at 103/2. With de Kock and Raghuvanshi at the crease, KKR moved steadily toward the target. By the 16th over, they reached 125/2.
Theekshana bowled a disciplined 17th over, but five extra runs from wides spoiled his figures. KKR moved to 135/2. In the 18th over, de Kock welcomed Archer with a boundary and followed it up with a massive six. Determined to finish the chase quickly, he smashed another six after two wides, sealing the win for KKR. Quinton de Kock remained unbeaten on 97 off 61 balls, smashing eight fours and six sixes. Raghuvanshi stayed not out on 22 off 17 balls.
Brief Scorecard
Rajasthan Royals need to improve in every department. Their batting has not been up to the level of other teams in this IPL season so far. Quinton de Kock played exceptionally well.
