Indian Super League 2024-25: Bengaluru Edge Past FC Goa on Aggregate to Reach Final
Sunil Chhetri’s last-minute header powered Bengaluru FC into their record fourth ISL final after a dramatic semi-final against FC Goa.
Bengaluru FC entered the Indian Super League 2024-25 final for the fourth time. They secured a 3-2 win on aggregate against FC Goa in the semi-final. Although Bengaluru lost the second leg 2-1 at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Fatorda, their 2-0 victory in the first leg gave them the advantage. Sunil Chhetri scored a dramatic goal in extra time to seal the spot in the final.

FC Goa Starts Aggressively

From the beginning, FC Goa tried to take control. In the 7th minute, Boris Singh shot from distance but missed badly. Just moments later, Udanta Singh set up Iker Guarrotxena, but his shot went wide too. These quick attacks showed FC Goa’s urgency. In the 13th minute, Dejan Drazic tried to score from Aakash Sangwan’s pass. However, the shot lacked power. As the half continued, Ayush Dev Chhetri and Guarrotxena created more chances, but Bengaluru’s defense stayed strong. The score remained 0-0 at halftime.

Herrera Scores Early in Second Half

FC Goa’s persistence paid off just after the break. In the 49th minute, they won a free kick near the penalty area. Borja Herrera stepped up and scored with a well-placed shot into the bottom left corner. This goal boosted FC Goa’s hopes.

Goa Pushes Forward

Goa didn’t stop attacking. In the 69th minute, Ayush Dev Chhetri missed a chance from inside the box. Soon after, Udanta crossed to Guarrotxena, who headed the ball on target, but Gurpreet Singh Sandhu saved it well.

Sadiku Levels the Match

With the match heating up, FC Goa equalized in the 89th minute. Aakash Sangwan delivered a sharp cross. Armando Sadiku headed it into the bottom right corner, making it 2-2 on aggregate.

Chhetri Strikes at the End

Right after the equalizer, Bengaluru FC responded with urgency. They earned corners and pressed high. In injury time, Namgyal Bhutia crossed into the box. Sunil Chhetri met it with a powerful header into the top center of the net. That goal sent Bengaluru into the final. Chhetri came on in the 55th minute and changed the game. He completed 10 out of 12 passes, created a scoring chance, made a tackle, and scored the winning goal. His impact was undeniable.
