Abhishek Sharma lit up IPL 2025 with an explosive century. He scored 141 runs off just 55 balls, guiding Sunrisers Hyderabad to an eight-wicket win over Punjab Kings.
Notably, this was the highest individual score by an Indian in IPL history. His knock helped Hyderabad chase down a massive target of 246. Although Punjab had set a tough score, Abhishek’s batting made the task look easy.
Yuvraj Singh Cheers with Humor
As expected, Abhishek’s mentor Yuvraj Singh reacted in his trademark witty style. He posted on X, “Wah Sharma ji ke bete! 98 pe single phir 99 pe single! Itni maturity hazam nahi ho rahi.” Through this, Yuvraj applauded Abhishek’s calm approach even while nearing his hundred.

Meanwhile, Abhishek gave credit to his mentors after the match. He said, “Special mention to Yuvi paaji, I have been talking to him.” He also mentioned that India’s T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav had offered him useful advice.
Abhishek and Travis Head opened the innings for Hyderabad with a bang. Head scored 66, and together, they built a 171-run stand — the highest of the season so far. As a result, Hyderabad chased the target with nine balls remaining.
He Celebrates with a Message
Abhishek raced to his half-century in just 19 balls. Later, he reached his century in 40 balls. After scoring his ton, he celebrated by waving a handwritten message that said, “this one for the orange army.”
Punjab's Total Falls Short
Earlier, Punjab had posted a challenging 245/6. Shreyas Iyer scored 82, while Marcus Stoinis chipped in with a quick 34. However, their efforts went in vain as Hyderabad’s openers dominated the chase.
Abhishek Joins Elite Company
Abhishek now holds the third-highest individual score in IPL history. Only Chris Gayle (175*) and Brendon McCullum (158*) have scored more. Clearly, Abhishek has arrived as one of the most dangerous T20 openers.
