Mumbai Indians edged past Delhi Capitals by 12 runs in a thrilling IPL 2025 clash, thanks to fiery knocks and a dramatic hat-trick of run-outs.

Mumbai Indians (MI) edged out Delhi Capitals (DC) by 12 runs in the 29th match of IPL 2025 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. Tilak Varma, Ryan Rickelton, and Suryakumar Yadav played blazing knocks that set the stage for Mumbai Indians. Naman Dhir’s quickfire innings at the end helped MI cross the 200-run mark. Delhi lost a wicket on the very first ball of the chase. Karun Nair played a confident and aggressive knock, putting Delhi in a strong position to win the match. However, Mumbai remained composed. They brought Karn Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah into the attack and managed to break the momentum with key breakthroughs. In the end, Delhi crumbled under pressure, with three run-outs in quick succession and ultimately, Delhi gifted the match to Mumbai.

Flying Start of Mumbai Indians

Delhi Capitals won the toss and chose to bowl first. Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton opened the innings for Mumbai Indians. Mitchell Starc started with the new ball. Rohit got off the mark with a single. Rickelton hit a boundary to open his account. Mumbai scored 11 runs in the first over.

Mukesh Kumar bowled the second over. Rickelton smashed a six. MI reached 20/0 after 2 overs. Then, Rohit attacked Starc in the third over, hitting a six and two boundaries. That over went for 19 runs.

Early Wicket But Strong Stand

Vipraj Nigam bowled the fifth over and dismissed Rohit Sharma on the last ball. MI lost their first wicket for 47. Suryakumar Yadav walked in at No. 3. Mukesh returned for the sixth over. Rickelton hit a boundary and brought up Mumbai’s 50. SKY also hit a six. After six overs, MI stood at 60/1.

Rickelton was on 33 from 21 balls. SKY was on 6 from 3 balls. Vipraj continued and conceded a boundary to SKY. Rickelton followed it with a six. Then, Kuldeep Yadav removed Rickelton for 41 off 25 balls. Tilak Varma came in and opened his account with a boundary. MI reached 79/2 after eight overs.

SKY, Tilak Keep Momentum

In the next over, Varma hit a six off Axar Patel. Both batters rotated strike and found occasional boundaries. At the 10-over mark, MI were 94/2. SKY was on 19 off 16 balls, and Varma on 12 off 7.

In the 11th over, MI crossed the 100-run mark. SKY and Varma struck a boundary each. Then, Varma ended the 12th over with a six. SKY smashed Vipraj in the 13th over, adding 17 runs. However, Kuldeep struck again and dismissed SKY for 40 off 28.

Tilak and Dhir Finish Strong

Hardik Pandya came in but fell on the first ball of the 15th over, scoring only 2. Naman Dhir joined Varma. Tilak hit a six and then a boundary in the 16th over. Naman also launched a six in the 17th. Tilak completed his fifty off just 26 balls. MI reached 167/4 after 17 overs.

Dhir and Varma built a solid partnership. Dhir hit a six in the 19th over. MI crossed 200 in the final over. Mukesh removed Varma for 59 from 33 balls. Mumbai posted 205/5 in 20 overs. Dhir stayed unbeaten on 38 off 17, while Will Jacks remained not out on 1.

Delhi Start Bright But Lose McGurk Early

Chasing 206, Jake Fraser-McGurk and Abhishek Porel opened for DC. Deepak Chahar dismissed McGurk on the first ball. Karun Nair walked in and quickly found boundaries. He hit three in the second over off Boult. DC scored 44/1 after four overs.

Nair hit a boundary off Chahar in the fifth over. He then smashed two sixes and a four off Bumrah in the sixth to bring up his 50 in just 22 balls. DC stood at 72/1 after six.

Nair On Fire, Porel Supports

Karun and Porel kept things steady against Santner and Pandya. Karn Sharma bowled the ninth over. DC crossed 100 and the 100-run partnership came up too. Nair struck a six and a four in the 10th. DC reached 113/1 after 10 overs.

Finally, Karn Sharma removed Porel in the 11th over for 33 off 25. KL Rahul walked in. Karun kept attacking but fell in the next over to Santner for a blazing 89 off 40. DC were 140/3.

MI Bounce Back With Key Wickets

Bumrah came back in the 13th and removed Axar Patel. Stubbs joined the chase but fell to Karn Sharma in the 14th. Ashutosh came in at No. 7. Rahul hit a boundary, taking DC to 150 in the 14th. Santner bowled a tight 15th over.

Karn dismissed KL Rahul in the 16th. Vipraj Nigam came to bat. Boult’s 17th over went for just 3 runs. Santner then got a wicket on a wide in the 18th over but gave away 16 runs.

Dramatic Collapse in Final Over

Bumrah returned for the 19th. Ashutosh hit two boundaries but got run out on the fourth ball. Kuldeep got run out on the fifth. Mohit Sharma also got run out on the last delivery. Delhi collapsed under pressure. Mumbai Indians sealed a thrilling win by 12 runs.
